I mentioned this in the snow-scooter thread, and thought maybe I should go ahead and give this its own thread. Last Thurs I got stuck in our blizzard. The bozos who caused this tried to tow me free by hooking to my wagon's rear bumper. Not the body/frame/solid part. The bumper. Even this non-mechanical artsy blonde knows better. Idiots. Of course they tore a huge chunk out of the bumper. And of course I never thought to get their insurance info. Worse, I didn't even get free. After about two hours, I thought to call my mechanic. God bless him, he came out for me with one of his minions in an F-150. They got my car free, and he drove it home. But then he got stuck just up from my house. I told the minion if he didn't care, go ahead and push my car 'cause my rear bumper was pooched anyways. So he did. And the change of angle going into my driveway shattered the other end of the bumper. They spent the next two days checking their local contacts. Nobody has a rear bumper for a '92 Ford Taurus wagon. At least, not an intact one. So here's my plea for help--if anybody has any car-parts contacts, would you check with them for a used rear bumper for me? Please?? It needs to actually be for a '92-(I think) ' wagon. The sedan is NOT the same. And the '02 bumper that the dealers on eBay say fit, is NOT the same. It might physically fit the braces (or whatever you call what mounts the bumper) but the sides are completely different. If there's a choice, the seafoam green one would be best since that's my car's colour. But I know a guy who can paint it, so colour's not vital. Cheap price is the most important thing. Well, second to actually fitting. >'Kat, who does not want to and cannot afford to spend $2000 on a new bumper

Do you need the bumper or just the plastic bumper cover?

Dunno what the difference is, scootn. I thought the bumper was the whole thing. Hm.
Let's try photos, if I can make this work.
Nope, sorry, just can't seem to get photos to post. Tried the two-finger thing, copied and pasted, drag and dropped, nothing works. Hm. But it did with my picture in that SD thread. HM!

Still can't. I'm just stupid here, 'cause I don't know what I did different with my church pic on SD. I thought maybe it was 'cause the size was too big. But I've made them way smaller and still they won't post.
Don't know what else to try. I bet those photos would really help though, wouldn't they? Maybe my super-smart friend will know what to do. That won't be 'til tomorrow if he does, sorry.

buggin, I did try eBay. There's several bumpers being sold there, but they're for the 2000- models. The sellers SAY it fits a '92. And it might physically fit in the mounts on my car. But the sides of those bumpers are completely different.
I looked over my church'friend's wagon--it's a 2000-something. The bumper sides fit flush into the body. There's also a hole on each side 'cause the little red side light is through the bumper.
Mine, it fits sort of on top of the body. And as you can see in the second pic the red side light is above.
So to my non-mechanical mind, they are not the same and it will not work.
But I didn't know about Pullsabpart. I'll give them a try. Thanks for the suggestion!

And thanks to you, too, scootn'. For both how to post a pic and for looking.
(yes, I was trying to quick reply instead of reply--you're right, easy-peasy)
So does it look like the whole bumper is pooched? Or just the plastic?

And I just had a thought.
Why did it shatter when pushed, when there wasn't actual impact? I thought these bumpers were supposed to be rated for something like a 5-10 mph impact. Constant pushing would NOT be an impact.
So why did the change in angle (when my car was going up our shallow driveway while the truck was just going onto the driveway) make it shatter? There was no feel of impact, I don't think he lost then hit my car. There was just suddenly a crunch and green shards flying.
(and the funny part of this sad story--my mechanic in my car heard the crunch and thought "There went Jordan's bumper." Jordan driving his F-150 heard the crunch and thought "There went my bumper, no wait the shards are green, good." I heard the crunch and thought "Oh well, I had to get a new bumper anyways." The two mechanics both thought it was their truck's newer and intact bumper that crunched, rather than my car's older and already-damaged bumper. Cute.)

it might be expensive, but at least you find out if ANYONE has them ANYWHERE. and if available somewhere maybe u can find 'em also

I stopped at my mechanic's tonight. He said it's the plastic. There's one piece missing where the idiots put the tow hook, but he said that's so small it won't make any difference.
They've tried 10 of the 15 "salvage yards" (per terri) in the area. Nobody has a used one. A bunch have a new one they're more than happy to sell us...plus paint, plus installation. He said he'll call the others but said at this point I should just go to the body-guy they recommend.
Dopey blonde girl again. Never thought about a body shop. Just always get help from my mechanic. Duh.
I used this guy once before, when a moron backed into me from his parking spot. I almost managed to avoid him thanks to my MSF training. Instead of dents, he rubbed the paint. The body-guy buffed out the damage, no charge except to recommend him to anyone I know who needs body work.
I'll check with him tom and see what he can find. I'm guessing an actual body repair guy has better contacts than a mechanic? I hope?
