Okie so basically i sell both on my website and i have about 70 parts listed on ebay. My competition on ebay both sellers from Puerto Rico watch me like a hawk. Everytime i put a part on that they have they have to lower their prices about 5 cents under mine. and this happens within 10 minutes. Its crazy. just as an example. A few days ago i posted a Carburetor kit on ebay for 109.50 the other guy had it for the same price. then he goes within a few minutes and lowers his price to $79.99 ( I left mine alone since his is an imiation OKO prouct) and they do this constantly. Anyone else have this issue?
BTW the seller has over 500 parts listed. I have 70

Take it as a compliment, he probably sees you as a threat to his market.

He won't stay in business long if his Overhead isn't supported by his low prices

yea. its crazy tho because this guy is a huge distributor here in Puerto Rico. and he is threatened by a 25 year old guy that has only been selling online for less than a year. Only thing about him is that he takes all the name brand stuff from Taiwan and has his chinese suppliers manufacture the same thing at cheaper prices. He is known for selling knock offs and trying to pass them off as real

Walter - There are many different tactics that established companies can use to deal with a competing upstart. Price cutting is just one of them, and really one of the less creative (and less underhanded too) methods as well if you think about it.
Really, you can't fault the guy for watching you, since (in my opinion anyway) you are doing a pretty good job for only being active in his market for the last year. He's just performing his due diligence, and it is a smart move on his part.
Just keep your head up, offer quality products and solid customer service and do the best you can every day. Don't let competition get to you, since that is what he wants. If you can't beat him at his game, play your own instead, and play it better and smarter than he can. Use your marketing, product and customer service to force him to chase you, instead of you following him on pricing.
This way, if he wants to play the pricing game, the person he is hurting most is himself and his bottom line.
Anyway, just some thoughts one businessman to another.

Gee I have another great domain that needs a host. I wish I knew how to take pics. I guess that knocks me out of the box with the big boys.

Customer service is where it is at!!!!! Price isn't everything. I for one stay away from EBAY anymore, seems more are doing the same. Just my humble opinion Jim

Sorry I didn't see this earlier, I moved it to the dealer section where it can continue. Sounds like they're taking lessons from WalMart. I shop around like a lot of people but it's not always about the price. I use ebay for a lot of everyday things. Example I have this cheap but powerful little 24v drill I bought at harbor freight a while back, one I needed a little drill like this for small jobs, two they were giving a little free volt meter with it and my old faithful bit the dust after 20 years of service.
I'm building a custom porch swing out of cedar and this drill is perfect for putting the screws in. The other day the 24v battery charger transformer took a hit when the electricity went off and on due to bad storms, dead as a hammer. Harbor freight has no replacement, now we're talking about a $20 drill. Found a universal 24v transformer on ebay for $4 shipping and all, not a bad deal.
I shop at the local Harps in my local town for groceries, the kind of store that still sends the weekly sale paper to you every week, go buy their specials but if I get there and they are out of the sale item I take the paper to walmart and make them price match it, they will do this, figure they advertise it so I'm going to make them do what they say.
I wouldn't worry about the guys who pull this stunt on ebay, sooner or later things like this catch up with you, take care of the customer and they don't mind paying a reasonable extra amount IMO.

Yea i agree with Partsforscooters. BTW i should have mentioned i have gotten probably around 5 nasty emails from him last year. Cussing me out, making fun of me when i got my first negative feedback on ebay. (even tho he has over 40) I have only 2. He also when i first started selling on ebay he bought a little exhaust gasket from me. ( This was before i knew him) and left me negative feedback saying very slow shipping even tho it arrived in less than 24 hours since he is located about an hour away. so yea. I just plan to ignore him.

just lower the prices 'till he has no other way than to sell it at a loss If he sells his items at a loss, because they're priced $0.5 below sales price, most likely, he will sell lots of items at a loss, while you will sell few items (at a loss), meaning, you'll make little business, but you can undercut the competition. Let him sell with a loss!

Competing on price point is a race to zero. Set your self apart with steady inventory, solid customer service and incentives for repeat customers.
