I wanted to take a screen shot of a map so I can outline my favorite route in my town.

An easy way is to just press the "print screen" key. Then, go to paint and "paste" it. "Paste" is under "edit" in Paint. I actually had to look that up because I forgot.

I hit shift, control and the number 4 click the mouse (holding it down) an crosshairs pattern shows up, you sweep over the image (kind of covered in a light gray) and release. You them have to upload to photo bucket etc. Hope this helps. Like this.

My Windows 7 came with "Snipping Tool". Have it locked to the task bar. Open, left click, hold, drag selection box then save. Saves as a JPEG, PNG, TIF, GIF files. Then do whatever you like with it.

Well I con't know on W7 on XP depending on my computer I am using, I have to press the Shift key OR the CNTRL key AND the Print Screen/Sys Rq key at the same time. I then open a photo editing software and open a new file then my software has me adjust the size of the new file and I can press the Edit button, scroll down to paste and I have a new photo file that can be cropped to size and modified in any way I want. I use a free program you can download called Gimp, it is close to the equivalent of Photo Shop it does take some learning.
Once you get a photo saved I suggest putting it in a word processing document for printing.
