If none of the above works the heat transfer paste may be old and dried out and would be good to replace it. (After a certain amount of heat cycles it dries out and doesn't work as well)

I almost positive that's what the deal is with mine. It's about 5-6 years old. Not to derail the thread, but I had to go to power options and set the power of the CPU down from 100% to around 70%--- just to keep it from shutting down. I'm almost positive it's the thermal paste. I took my laptop apart completely and it looked a little crusty. Haha--- the PC guy I took it to couldn't even figure that out---he had it for a month, but didn't charge me. How hard is it to reapply the thermal paste?
Anyway back on topic..
I just applied thermal compound (Arctic Silver 5) to my CPU, and maxed my CPU out at 100%. I've watched a few Youtube videos and have been online for a good 30 minutes at full power, it hasn't shutdown....yet. Normally at max it would've shut down by now without the fresh compound--- so hopefully this works out.
