I suspect I am not charging properly. I have not checked the voltage at the connections yet. The bike will stay running with all lights and instruments with the battery disconnected. What exactly does this mean?. Also I have read that some people have replaced the blocking diode and remedied charging problems. I have seen pictures of various diodes and have not seemed to have found one on my linhai 300 mainstreet. Where is it located on the bike. Pictures would be helpful.
Thanks.

What it means is your system is running everything off your stator and the battery is used for Electric start and most likely the horn and volt meter and gas gauge. Take your volt meter and attach it to the battery and start your scoot and see what it reads. Then give it some throttle and bring the rpms up to 4-5k and see if the Volt meter reading goes up if charging good it should read 13+ or 14+ volts. Alleyoop

Why do you suspect a charging issue?

[replyingto=alleyoop]alleyoop[/replyingto]I definitely don't have one of those on my scoot. I have looked and it just aint there. There is nothing next to the r/r. I wonder whats up with that. I do have a small (approx 2x3 inch) device that appears to have a small circuit board in it that was inside the frame tubing with a 2 wire connector. It had a bare spot on it so I put some electrical tape on it and put it back where it was. I will try to get some pics of it. It is before the r/r. Any one know what it is?. I suspect charging problems because of dim lights that slowly get dimmer the longer I ride and the fact that after longer rides of 75 to 100 miles the battery will go dead and leave me stranded. I bought a new 9 amp battery to take along just in case. I keep them both charged. Having the battery out while running shows no effect +/- on the lights. The instruments. Tail lights, brake lights appear to be normal. Also does the cooling fan run off the battery?.
Thanks.

This scooter is not the typical set up as far as the firing system. It has a TCI instead of a CDI and the TCI gets it's power from the stator. While it will run with the battery disconnected it is not recommended. www.jr-richscooterdoc.com/WD_linhai_mainstreet-300_wir_diagram.pdfFirst things first, need to take a volt meter and measure the voltage across the battery at idle and at 5k RPM to see if it increases. Also check all grounds. It needs to have 14.5Vdc+ at 5k RPM. If not then you need to find the 3 White wires going into the R/R (they may be yellow) and test the voltage with your meter set on AC. Set the meter at least to the 200Vac ranges and test the voltage from white wire to white wire like this since this is a 3-phase stator: 1 to 2 1 to 3 2 to 3 You should have 60 to 100Vac on all three tests depending on engine RPM. If they are not equal then you have a bad stator. Check these and get back. JR
