I have one of those on my Trike even though my instrument panel has a built in Tach. Just bought it to try it out. What I see is that at Idle it registers the same or close to my built in one. But as I crank on it it shows about 300-400 higher rpms higher than my instrument tach. So I really do not know which is closer to the right rpms the motor is cranking at. I would assume the instrument tach is the one that is off due that signal being picked up to early in the cycle of firing the plug.
