Bought 2...1 for my sisters scoot. But she doesn't want it..she is happy at 40 mph with 5 gram KOSO sliders and 1k springs. She rode my modded scoot..and said 56mph was just insane on something so small and light.

WHAT!! just because you have an advancing CDI DOES NOT mean it will take off on you You still have to TWIST the throttle to whatever speed you want to go at . Alleyoop

Alleyoop I agree, just because you have the extra power at hand doesn't mean you have to use it, and it could come in real handy when you DO need it.

Alleyoop Alleyoop and marshalldillion..EXACTLY what I told her! I said "Look your car is capable of 120mph+...but does not mean ya gotta drive it that fast" My Hayabusa Crotch Rocket did 160+ mph....I hit once..and just took their word for its top speed..was NOT about to verify anything

Umm..yeah..ok..that is for a 4 STROKE! 4 Stroke parts are always cheaper than 2 stroke parts as everyone on here knows. Reason why? We have no clue since they have less intricate and less moving parts. Case in point. 4 stroke BBK $40-$99.... 2 stoke BBK $80-$200. So your comment and link do not apply here..

Minarellis often use a 5 pin CDI where GY6 is a 2+4 pin set . I have the blue finned CDI from PFS and it did help on takeoff and midrange with same top end on the 49cc but wih a BBK I can hit 10,500 instead of maxing out at 8,000 plus I have a MMG pipe and a Uni

Actually most (all?) of the 4 stroke scooter CDIs use a "wasted spark" system where it is basically a 2 stroke cdi in that it fires once every rotation.
You can wire a "4 stroke" CDI to a 2 stroke bike and it will work in most cases. Its not like there is some mechanical physical difference between the two besides the wires/harness.
I can't say whether that particular CDI is good or not, just saying.
As to why 4t parts are cheaper even though they are more intricate/breakable is because of something called economy of scale. In many parts of the world (especially Asian/third world countries) new 2 strokes are outlawed or heavily restricted because of emissions.
So while the Chinese factories crank out 4 stroke bikes/parts by the millions and choke our junkyards with their carcasses, the few 2 strokes they make either go to Europe or a dew lucky people in America.
Its like at least 10-1 4 stroke Chinese garbage to 2 stroke passable Chinese fun.
Most of the 2 stroke kits come from Taiwan or preferably Europe. ALL of the 4 stroke garbage comes out of China.
However the CDIs, 2 or 4 stroke, all come out of China and are pretty much the same thing.
I have bought some Malossi CDIs with honest to god performance capabilities and it is really noticeable on kitted set ups, not so much on stock stuff.

Actually that CDI will work on a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke. The spark plug is fired on the compression stroke and on the exhaust stroke.

Both of you say it can be used on a 4 stroke. My question is...jog/minarelli is a 5 pin connector....QMB139 and QMJ157 GY6 engines are 6 pin. So how could you wire a 5 pin CDI to a 6 pin connector.

On the 6pin CDI 2 of the pins are ground. On a 5pin only one of the pins are ground. So if you switch to a 5pin all you have to do is connect those 2 groundwires to the one groundwire on the 5pin CDI. You will also need a wiring diagram (of both scooters) to figure out where the other wires go. It takes a little effort, but it will work.

Well that is true...2 are ground..I suppose you could make it work...but you would need to buy the plugs for it to fit the 4T. The company makes one for 4T also...and of course being 4T the parts are a bit cheaper than 2T....which still I don't understand

And I'd guess that they sell a lot more 4 stroke CDI's than 2 stroke so to offset the cost of R&D for the 2 stroke CDI's they charge more. Thats probably the case with most 2 stroke parts and why they cost more.
