OK so I got educated in the AC vs DC CDI. But I keep smoking CDI's.
The first one I ordered in the blind and it was AC CDI... It fried in seconds. I determined I have a DC system. The one I bought is one of those $8 ebay orange CDI's.
I ordered a different more expensive DC CDI, CASOLI "CF250". It also fried.
What am I doing wrong. May be my scooter has different wiring. I saw one youtube video where you have to pull one wire out of the connector on the bike side? The video was poor/not clear, so I was not sure about it's relevance.
Why change the stock one? Well the scooter runs fine but cuts out at 48 MPH like clock work, like the ignition is being turned off and then on... or like the throttle is instantly closed than opened again, IE Cutting out. I wanted to try a "racing" CDI with out a REV limiter. Not sure my stock CDI has a limiter.

make sure your components are located in a good location for cooling I have had to replace all of the different components because it was over an exhaust that burst and cooked off
also dont go to far in switching out LED lighting the less power is used the more is sent to the resistor

I have indeed swapped out some lights for LED... but only rear running brake light and turn signals. Interesting! Thanks

have you tried replacing your coil? Negative on the Coil. I do have a spare. I got it when I bought the AC CDI, it came as a kit with the a coil and high tension lead. The Hi-tension lead was crap. The OEM lead and coil look to be much better quality. Nothing I got with that kit I trust. I may buy a high quality coil... I am thinking the changes I made in jetting may have the bike hitting the Rev limiter. I'd love to know if the stock CDI has a limiter. The aftermarket ones I bought go up in smoke instantly. It has been suggested I going with lighter Variator Roller Weights....' Also suggested was check engine valve adjustment. I checked it early and it was good, and I perfected it. The bike is running good except for top speed cut out.

if your hitting the rev limit, light weight rollers is exactly the wrong way to go instead get some nice heavy sliders so you can maximize your top speed that will compensate some for the limited RPM
I have had good luck ordering parts off of Amazon and only the CDI for go carts are supposed to be rev limited

I went through 3 CDIs before i realized the r/r was puttin out half DC and half AC, frying lights, CDIs, and causing other weird issues...
