i can't imagine getting on my ride without my helmet and gloves. i'll sometimes skimp on my other gear if it's really hot, but i'll never ride without the above mentioned items.
a full face helmet offers other benefits too. - it protects your entire head, not only from dumps, but from all manner of airborne debris. bugs come readily to mind, ive watched a few grasshoppers splat against my visor. not to mention those bullets called june bugs
- it protects your eyes, not only from the wind, but also from the above mentioned nasties.
- it helps keep you warm.
there is only one drawback to full face helmets, and that is the visor will fog under certain conditions. there are a number of ways to deal with this though. i've heard a thin film of liquid soap on the inside will prevent fogging but must be re applied periodically.
opening the visor a teeny bit can help reduce fogging.
a good quality design would probably eliminate fogging alltogether.

I love wearing my full face helmet on a crisp winter morning. In the summer, in the Houston area; fo'get about it. Too hot/humid for a full face helm. You will be blinded by your own sweat.

I have Shoei and Nolan modular helmets, on both I put the optional "pinlock" visor to prevent fogging. (Also helps during rain too)

You will be blinded by your own sweat. i found my helmet surprisingly cool on hot days, like around or so. opening the visor a little bit provides enough ventilation to keep it reasonable. you really don't notice the heat until you stop. i guess that 65mph wind helps a lot. what's with the "welcome back" when i typed the numbers nine and five like ?

I think I'll always wear a full-face. I have so far since April 2008 when I got my scoot and I'm glad I have.
The last thing I want is for my head to hit the ground at any speed. It's bad enough when you're at home and hit your head on the corner of an open cabinet after putting dishes away or whatever, down below.
There have been times when I haven't wore a helmet, and everytime I don't I get something in my eyes and I can't stand it. Every. Time. It never fails.
I have about a 10 mile ride home every night after work. Sometimes it rains. It's dark. I have 2 12v 18/18w lights that aren't the greatest. The brakes on my scoot are ok, but I feel like the lights and brakes for my small scoot weren't meant for me to be doing 45mph for a pretty good stretch or to be stopping quickly from 45mph if there is a road hazard.
The times when I ride home from work at night right after a decent storm rolls through makes me glad I have a full-face. There are several small hills (one little dip will flood a bit) and turns with trees close to both sides of the country-ish road I take home. Things can come up a bit quicker on me than I'd like in that situation. Of course be careful and drive slower when that happens, but I'm only human and things happen whether it storms or not.... like deer...
I already hit the ground once avoiding 3 deer running out in front of me, breaking my wrist in 3 places somewhere during the probably 25 feet I rolled-- I honestly don't know how far I rolled but it seemed like forever and it was downhill. It's a good thing it was November and I had a full Carhardt suit, winter jacket, gloves, and a hemet on or I would've been screwed probably.
I like full-face with visor down most of the time. I actually thought about using goggles or eye protection in conjunction w/ the helmet just so I can get more airflow on hotter days by riding with the visor completely up, day or night. The vent airflow on some of these helmets could be a lot better. I live in northern Indiana so it's not brutal too often, which is nice. This summer hasn't been too bad, really.

(Also helps during rain too) I use the pinlock as well, it works great, my problem is with rain drops sticking on the outer side of the visor, I have tried with several fluids like the Oxford kit as well as with Pledge without success, on highways it is not a big problem, you just turn your head to the side so the wind wipes the rain drops away, but on stop and go slow traffic on the city, it is a big issue, specially at nights.

It never fails. i tried that . . . once. it was like 90F outside, and i thought i would take my scoot out for a spin. so, out the door i went, no gloves, helmet, boots, or long pants. i got, oh i dunno, maybe a block or 2 from the house, and i actually felt naked sitting on my scoot. i just HAD to go home and dress properly.

Open helmets are as good as no helmet, most injuries happen on the chin area according to statistics.

fullfaced helmets just makes a lot of sense. some of the newer ones look pretty cool too.
of course, fit is as important as the helmet itself. buy your helmet from a brick and mortar motorcycle shop, that way you can get a properly fitted helmet.

I'll show up those politicians, as soon as they unwire my face. makes me wonder, wear a dam real helmet, live to ride another day

In Florida the dumbasses can ride around with no helmet now, if they can show extra medical coverage, this is so when a texting soccer mom, or gray hair, knocks you off the bike, and they have to scrape your off the pavement, then life flight you to a trauma center, and hook you up to life support, while your brain swells irreversibly, the tax payers won't get hosed with the bill

A few years ago, some dumbass at an anti helmet rally got in a 15 mph wreck while refusing to wear a helmet and died. Sometimes actions speak louder then words, he hit his head on the pavement I believe, he was saying helmets kill you in a wreck, oh the irony. I notice that more scooter riders are now wearing full face helmets, then regular full size bike riders, this says a lot, I see a lot of shorts and t shirts, but it's progress, I just have a personal issue with road rash, I hear it's not "manly"to wear a helmet espcialy a full face one, well it's real manly to be fed applesauce by a male nurse, while drooling on yourself, and wearing a diaper, in some nursing home, because you damaged your BRAIN because you wanted to be cool, the safety statistics on motorcycle deaths are completely screwed up, they lump all regular bikes, scooters, and even pedal mopeds and electric DUI bikes together. So all the idiots who got killed when their tiny half helmets flew off, plus all the Harley wrecks that were DUIs, and all the riders who died for refusing to wear safety gear, are lumped into the statistics of the good riders who never ride not geared up.
