Here is the link: treasure.craigslist.org/mcy/5960084671.htmlA 2006 SYM RV 250. This was first put up around November 28th, 2016 - I think he wanted $1400 or so then. Now down to $1000... A 250 would be nice for some of the faster roads around here - and $1000 seems like a good price. Thoughts? Parts availability? Reliability? Anyone have one?

KBB is only $1,700 at a dealer with a warranty for a 2007 and they do not list any for 2006 so it could be an early production model. You know what they say, don't buy the first model year. If they had been making at least the engine for a while before that would be another matter but prior to 2007 I only see 50cc bikes listed by Sym.
Still about 5,000 miles on a 250 for $1,000 is tempting.

SYM is a good make, and, a good deal at $1,000.00.
Heck, for that price you would be hard pressed to find a new Chinese 150cc scooter.

Gotta agree with "it's a good deal"...
SYM and Kymco are similar. My dealer sells both, and I love my old '07 Kymco 250 (trouble-free with 17,000 miles on the clock). I'd think a SYM 250 with only 5K would be in great shape, and pretty fast with a top-speed of at least 70-mph.
You just don't see many SYM's and I don't know why. They are very good scoots! Check it out...

The only negative I see is Sym was under Carter Brothers in 2006 and the 250 was a new model so bleeding edge. When Carter Brothers appeared to have burned down their own warehouse in 2010 it tarnished the Sym Brand in the eyes of many.
Alliance/Lance has been nursing it back to health over the past few years now so today things are better than in the dark Carter Brothers years or prior to 2006(2004?) when Syms were Gray Market Bikes in the USA.
You roll the dice on one of the Dark Years or Gray Market bikes however those bikes can be had at bargain prices.

Why not go check it out, have them go with you on a test-drive, then offer something reasonable like $800.

Mike at Alliance/SYM/Lance is a stand up dude. You can even reach him at Facebook. I'm sure he will get you parts or hook you up with a dealer. For that price you would be crazy not to. People who owned them here years ago passed 30,000 miles with ease.

The only reason I would try to talk you out of it is so I could buy it myself. Try finding another Taiwanese 250cc scoot in good shape for that price.

Well, posting is now "deleted by author"... Hope he sold it - instead of just taking it down due to lack of interest - I mentioned it had been up since November... Maybe mentioning it here helped?

Condition is everything. You don't know until you see and hear it running what your dealing with. When they linger they are either way over priced or there is a problem with the title, etc.
We keep seeing the same bikes from time to time around here being resold by different folks due to bad titles or being recovered thefts that were not quite right so you do have to be cautious. Sometimes you can't get the title due to a lock on it due to unpaid tolls or parking tickets.
