hi all, so last night i decided to swap out the gy6 motor from my old roketa and put it into my newer tao tao as the tao tao was extremely slow but in much better shape, somewhere along the line im assuming i got a vacuum line wrong because after shutting off the engine theres a hissing sound, other than that everything ran fine, i rode it to work today and while cruising at about 40mph there was suddenly a change in the noise (similar to that when your going down hill and you hit the max of what the engine can do) i slowed down and pulled over to notice oil leaking from somewhere behind the air filter box. i started up again as i wasnt far from work and there seamed to be a complete lack of drive, it idles fine and revs up just fine (although much louder than before) but there is no power at the wheel, rpms are up to about 8,000rpm while moving about 5mph.
havnt had chance to tear it all apart yet but will do when i get home, i intend on pulling parts from the other motor to try and avoid having to go back to the slow one and also putting the vac line where i think it should be. but if anyone has any idea as to what i might have blown while riding please let me know.

how is the cold start with other scooters? it has been pretty warm around here for the last few weeks since i bought my new tao tao 50cc but yesterday we hit a cold snap, last night outside work i had to spend 10 minutes babying the throttle until it seamed able to stay running, the ride home was even slower than usual with a lot of bogging down and not much throttle response.
used it again this morning (still cold, 35 degrees) and again what a of a time i had getting it running. i originaally thought it was running rich given the slight carbon build up on the plug when i switched out the stock for an ngk after only 40 miles but i guess i was wrong. wouldnt a rich running engine start great in the cold?
looks like ill go back to riding my old roketa which i used all winter long at way below freezing, a bit of a dog to get started cold or walm but once its started it runs fantastic all be it a little noisier and less comfortable.

cool thanks guys, ill try the lighter sliders and rollers then, any advice as to which ones and where from?
ill probably go ahead and order one of the orange CDI's too while im at it seeing as they cost less than the blue one i bought. if all else fails ill swap out everything from my higher mileage roketa, that thing is pretty zippy in traffic compaired to the slugish vip. its not much slower but still feels like a downgrade. just wish the roketa was faster uphill (havnt tried the vip uphill yet) i get 20mph uphill which is a little embarrasing lol.
another major annoyance with the vip is the speedometer its so far off of reality that i stopped looking at it but given that my top speed on gps so far has been around 32mph i dont think ill be getting any speeding tickets.

hi, new here, just posted an intro, iv been lurking and reading posts for awhile but thought i would join given that i always have so many question.
anyways i have a taotao vip 50cc which is a little sluggish compaired to my 08 roketa so i figured i would buy a performance cdi from monster scooters, its my fault for not pulling the stock one and checking the connector but i ended up ordering the wrong one, mostly because it was the only one they had for a 50cc 4 stroke gy6. my scoot has 2 separate connectors one with 4 pins and one with two. the one i ordered has one slot but room for 6 pins with one left blank, so my question is where can i get one to fit my scoot? all of the others that look as though they may fit are all for higher cc engines. or alternatively should i change the connector currently on the scoot for one that would fit the new cdi and if so which wires go where and which is the one i should leave blank.
also i read once that cutting one of the wires would remove the rpm restiction, this was compounded by the fact that one of the pins in the performance cdi is a blank. i never like the ideas of cutting a wire especially when the part looks like its only going to cost around $30 but can someone confirm or deny if this would have the same affect as the performance cdi. my assumption was that the performance cdi would just remove the rpm restriction, does it do more than that?

Hi everyone, new here and new to scooters
bought a scooter from a guy a few months back, a piece of crap looking roketa 50 for $300 thought it what be fun, although it looked like junk after a little screwing around it ran great and pretty quick, much quicker than i thought. it was so much fun to ride i decided to buy a brand new taotao vip 50cc, i knew going in it was more cheap chinese crap but thought if all fails ill hold onto the roketa that has nearly 2000 miles that way i have a spare engine that i know is reliable. so far so good, although slower the taotao is fun to ride and much smoother than my clunker lol.
anyways im a tattooist from northern kentucky working in a very busy shop, my main thing is black and grey portraits and realism, not sure how that pertains to scooters but thought i would tell you a little about myself.
