I think the screw is still sealed off, i would need to drill that out to reach it. If it's still set to factory specs, could that be causing this much trouble? It has about 2,600 miles on it.
When I first got it started, it revved up just fine but there was a lot of white smoke coming out of the exhaust. It ran for about a minute or so before it died out. Not sure if that's useful information.

I was looking for the mix screw and I noticed a little spot on the underside of the carb where a vacuum line might go. I added another picture to the same folder above. You can barely see it to the right of the bracket near where the hose with the spring casing goes into the carb. On that note, what is the hose with the spring casing for? It goes down to the side and connects to something with a small screw inside of it.
I apologize for any lack of clarity, it's hard to describe what I'm talking about without knowing what everything is called.

nope, all I have done is get it to spark so far. Do you have a suggestion for a good guide to follow for the valve adjustment? I don't know what the clearance is supposed to be.

I'm finally getting spark, but now the engine dies out whenever I touch the throttle. I can get it to rev up just enough to get the rear wheel spinning if I twist the throttle slowly before it stalls, but if it cuts off if I give it too much at once.
I have replaced the stator, plug, and CDI trying to get a spark, but I don't know how to tell if I'm getting a "strong" spark. I've tried two different spark plugs (one standard and one iridium). I'll check the voltages coming off of the CDI and stator tomorrow to see if anything turns up there.
Any ideas for what I should try? I guess I should mention this is a 2012 taotao that I bought from a guy who crashed it.

The hose that connects to the air box doesn't seem to be matched very well. Is there normally an adapter or something to connect it? I can force it on, but it doesn't seem like it will stay especially with the way that I have the hose routed from the canister.

I bought this all torn up and I'm trying to figure out where these hoses are supposed to go: The line from the carb looks severed, not sure where that is supposed to go. There are also pictures of some air hoses and a rubber piece with a clip on it above the kick start and below the fuel line from the gas tank. Not sure how to upload pictures from my phone, but here's a link to the folder: drive.google.com/folderview?id=0BwXRU2qJMxDvWGMtYTl5YzBBaHM&usp=sharingThanks!

Thanks, I'm hoping it was just a bad stator because otherwise I'm going to need to perform an exorcism. Hopefully I was hooking up the multimeter to the correct terminals too.

yeah that looks like the right one. I'll go ahead and order that from you. Thanks for pulling it up for me.

Long post, so jump to the bottom if you don't care about how I got to where I am with my problem.
I've been trying to get my taotao 50 to spark for a while now. I'm assuming it is the stator because of the open circuit from CDI power to ground. I finally went through a troubleshooting guide and here is what I found:
Triggering voltage(BLU/Y) 0.12 VAC Trigger Resistance 140 Ohms CDI Power (R/B) 21 VAC CDI Power Resistance Open! Primary Coil Resistance .6 Ohms Secondary Coil 7.8K Ohms
Yellow and White from the stator resistances are normal. Kill switch and main switch are ok, plus I removed the black and white kill wire going into the CDI just in case.
I replaced the CDI and plug before I checked the stator resistance. The problem is, I feel like I shouldn't be getting any voltage from the triggering coil if it is not grounded. I would love for this to just be a stator problem, but I'm beginning to think the scooter is cursed.
After looking at the connecting plug, I noticed that there is a ground plug on the CDI side that plugs into nothing on the stator side. I'm assuming that the stator grounds itself to the crankcase, but I thought it was odd that there was a ground wire connected to nothing. I still read an open circuit when measuring from the black and red wire to the body of the stator and there was nothing. I pulled off the tape and tried to inspect the wire, but i couldn't get connection between the two poles. I stripped the wire and everything, but I have no idea why there wouldn't be any resistance between the wire going in and the wire going out of the same coil.
Basically, I'm planning on just buying a new stator and hoping that that's going to fix my problems. If not, does anyone have any suggestions on what else it could be? I've been messing around with this on and off since last September, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm probably going to buy a cheap one off of amazon or something unless anyone strongly suggests otherwise and can recommend another vendor.
Sorry for the long post and if I said anything stupid. I'm new to all of this fixing stuff nonsense.
