Hello everyone,
This is a play by play, so that you know the whole story, I've ran out of ideas, but I've come to far to quit.
Any suggestions are much appreciated.
Ok here's the deal, (According to the Seller) I got a kymco agility 50cc 2006 that was left outside this past winter. Milage/Kilo read only 390, and it had a little side damage looking like it was dropped once but still looked clean. Seller said he got it last summer, rode it until it got cold then it sat, wouldn't start at all.
I changed the spark plug, battery, and oil and gas.
It tried to start. but it wouldn't kick over.
I changed the fuel filter, nothing.
I cleaned the carb, since i was new at this i forgot the jets
It would only start after sitting overnight but wouldn't stay running
I cleaned it again, using copper wire until i could thread through the jets
Again, It would only start after sitting overnight but wouldn't stay running
At this time i noticed the petcock seemed stuck open.
I bought a new one online for $15 and replaced it, no change.
(The hole did look a little smaller below the filter, not sure if that matters)
Still no change.
BUT THEN I REALIZED, I forgot the float pin, so I cleaned the carb a 3rd time, and i think it's pretty clean this time, so i think it's ready
Tried to start it 10 times, nothing, wait, the kill switch!
Started right up, then it kept running, here's where it got weird,
I gave it full throttle, and it got stuck redlining. I shut it off, back on, same thing, throttle bar not responding. Finally after holding the brake, it stopped redlining, it died down a little but kept accelerating, and i figured it was just a too high an idle, so i got on it to scoot around the parking lot.
When I got over 15mph it would lack power. I could rev it up but it would just give power then not give it. I was tired and it stalled out so I call it quits for the night because it barely had gas anyway.
(looking back, after that redlining incident I don't think it ever ran that hard again)
Next day I put gas in, started up but seemed even weaker, couldn't even go up a hill. But a few days later it had a little more power but its only maxing at 30% and cutting back down.
It would start and run all day like this.
Since then I have
taken out the fuel hose and put it in container, pulled the throttle, it is giving decent stream, not the strongest but it seemed more than a trickle, enough to think it's filling the carb.
I took off the air filter, i cut off the air with a sheet of cardboard, the engine died in 5 seconds.
I adjusted the valves, they were tight, I loosened them up using a soda can as a feeler, and I think it runs a little better but it did not come fix the problem at all.
**This may have been the problem but i can not figure it out**
There is one catch, and I'm sorry if I didn't mention this first, but I didn't want to start 2 forums and I figured my story might help someone else.
At some point through this whole process, I found this rubber washer where I was working on the scooter (mainly on the carb) but for the life of me I can not find anywhere that it may go, and I've look at several manuals.
I have attached a pic of the rubber part, any info will help. I plan to post the end result for this thread because i hate reading ones like this and the person who got all this help from strangers never posts the end result. That really grinds my gears
