I feel your pain. That little thing there is a needle roller from the bearing. This came from another QJ Minarelli engine. It wasn't branded as a CPI but its all the same thing with different stickers. Sucks but this is the kind of thing that could be fixed for like $2 in manufacture. The factory buys a slightly better quality needle bearing and the engine isn't blewed up.

So I have been offered this scooter as a project. Its one of the many incarnations of the QJ long case Minarelli engine scooter. You might know them best as the "Vento Triton" or "Yamati RX8" or "CPI Oliver". They are all the same thing with slightly different graphics/color offerings. ANYWAY here is the issue. As you can see the ear or tab or mounting point or whatever you want to call the place the pipe bolts to the engine has been snapped clean off. Apparently some drunk college kid just kicked or stomped the pipe or something and this is the result. That and the silencer on the pipe being gone as well. So assuming I do decide to buy this bike what would yuns do? I see a few options. One is replace the engine. That would be expensive and time consuming but there it is. Two is try and find someone who could weld it back together. I know almost zero about aluminum welding and don;t own a tig welder so I would be in no position to access the difficulty of this job. Three would be aluminum welding rods or aluminum solder or whatever you want to call it. Problem is I don't own an oxy/acetalyne torch and I doubt a blow torch would get hot enough on pieces of this size. Thin metal or small pieces a blow torch will do, I donno about two pieces that big. What do yuns think? Should I just let this scooter go and not take the deal or is there an easy-ish semi-cheap way to fix this?

NRA sticker in visible area.
"Guns don't kill people, I kill people." or a USMC sticker.
Or a couple cheap locks.
Its the same concept as running from a zombie horde.
You don;t have to be the hardest target, you just can't be the easiest prey.

Thats kinda steep but they are excellent scooters.
For that price you might as well drop a little extra and get a Genuine Rough House or a nice Kymco 2 stroke.
"I just missed out on getting a CPI GTR those are super sweet with 17 inch wheels and LC engine" Damn I have never even heard of those. Pictures?

I find it telling that the same people who complain about this stuff are still willing to shop at Wal-Mart and or buy stuff thats made in China or where-ever-stan.
If you never shop at Wal-Mart or haven't bought any Chinese made goods in the past week then complain on with clean conscience.
If you shop at Wal-Mart or don't care/check where your stuff is made then keep blaming it on everyone else when the problem is in the mirror.
Shop local and buy American/Union made.

I charge $40 an hour but I wont touch Chinese 4 strokes.
Too much fragile plastic and they usually wont run right even when they are fixed.
