I know this is an old thread, but I'm hoping this will help someone else, because I've recently been in the same position, wanting to swap my 50 cc from my Tao Tao Racer to a 150cc, while keeping it as stock looking as possible. I'm actually having to order a brand new bike just to get all the parts I need for the swap. The Holy Grail engine that we've been on the hunt for is an LK157QMJ. The 'LK' designation means it was manufactured by Leike, who makes a bottom mounted version of the GY6 150cc. Up until recently, the only bike that I knew of that they put it in was the Roma Super Hornet, which hads a dual shock shock setup in the rear, but to my understanding, (and I'm about to drop over a grand just to verify this) they are now just recently putting it in a Cougar Cycles Rocket with a monoshock configuration, which is what I need for my particular build. I've actually had my hands on a Super Hornet, and I know that engine would fit with little modification, but I would have either had to try and reuse my stock monoshock bottom bracket, or fab a new one, but if the spec sheets (and the sales staff at saferwholesale) are correct, this new model has the same engine, but with a monoshock out back on the Rocket, and the Rocket is like 3-400 cheaper than the Super Hornet. I have searched all over for a source for just the engine, but the lowest cost I've been quoted for the engine only is 680, and that's with no mounts, carb, pipe/silencer, wiring harness, etc., so it will be more cost effective in the long run to just order a whole bike, swap the engines both directions, and hopefully end up with a 50cc (actually 88cc BBK) Rocket to sell, and a 150cc Racer to ride!

This is one man's opinion........if your 50cc isn't enough power/speed, get a 150cc machine. If a 150cc isn't enough to float your boat, move up to a 250cc machine, and so on. Don't try to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear....You'll be a happier camper. I generally agree with you, but in my build, I want a certain style. I know most folks that scoot apparently don't care about looks, (I've seen some pretty hideous machines out there)but I have a bike that I absolutely love the look, style, way it handles, etc., but it is a 50cc, it needs more torque for the hills around my area, and that's the only size they make this particular bike in. So I've been on a seemingly never-ending quest to find a bottom mounted 150-250cc engine to upgrade, while still maintaining the stock look. I found an engine that fit the bill, the only problem is, that it is in another fairly rare style, so the used market just isn't plentiful with candidates to cannibalise. So I'm actually considering buying a brand new, in the crate bike, just to get everything I need for the swap, because ordering it all peice by peice would cost almost as much as the new bike anyway. Since the engine will fit going 50 to 150, it should work the other way as well and go 150 to 50, and I'll be able to put my old engine into the new bike as well, and end up with a bike to sell afterwards to negate most of the cost of the swap. I know it sounds complicated and totally not worth it, but seriously, there's not another scooter in the world like it (trust me, I've checked), and it deserves to be the bike that the manufacturer SHOULD HAVE built in the first place but didn't. In case you're wondering, the bike in question is a Tao Tao Racer 50, and it definitely deserves the upgrade, imho.
