Oh, I've got a thread up regarding my 50cc issue, no idle, just waiting on parts now so thought I'd introduce myself. Great board/community, look forward to troubleshooting my bikes here.

Hey onewheeldrive, I used to be big into PC gaming, but as of late, find myself without a PC worthy of gaming (down to a 2 year old touch screen Toshiba laptop rocking Linux, not great for games ) - but a decent gaming rig can be made or purchased quite reasonably these days and PC gaming is awesome...and sucks double edged sword. There's far more customization, graphics can be tweaked on the fly for the most part to get either better graphics or performance, whatever you want in the moment, the supply of games is nearly endless, right down to emulated, old-school Atari and 8-bit Nintendo games, and you can upgrade a decent box for quite some time to stay current without scrapping it for something new. The downside, biggest one I can think of, is cheaters in online games. They're EVERYWHERE. There are a lot of safeguards most companies use against it, but every time an old hack is patched, a new one gets written by someone. I've got an Xbox One collecting dust at the moment, been working too many hours and fiddling with this scooter too much for any game time. Love it though. Favorite games are GTA5 (when I feel like some brain dead fun,) Elder Scrolls Online, and Fallout 4 (got all the DLC's). Haven't plaid a Resident Evil game in years but loved the early editions, so may have to pick up 7 (the movies are great, don't care what critics say ). Best horror I've seen in quite some time was Don't Breath, very sick and twisted but not over-the-top intricate like the Saw movies ended up. Classic, simple, jumpy horror with serious mind-bending moments.

Real original, I know, right? Anyway, I'm Matt, new to scooters, new to fixing scooters, and new to the forum. Always loved bikes in general. Had a little Honda CB400....450 maybe? Little bobber project years ago but ended up selling it when the carbs got gunked up, money ran short, and my fear of breaking something expensive while trying to fix it was still there. Recently was given a couple of 50cc Chinese scooters by my uncle in an attempt to get me some quick, cheap wheels to get me back on the road (Ford F150 with a bad hub, suspension, needed frame work, more rust than metal left, and no exhaust... had to sack it.) One's an '04 Qingqi QM50QT-6 (no letter mentioned on the bike, there's a 6S and 6V that I know of,) and I haven't paid the other enough attention to even know who made it... it's in sad shape but next on my list once I get the Qingqi running. These were 'broke' when I got them, so that aforementioned fear was significantly less and hence, I've managed to learn a decent bit about how these little guys work. I've been fiddling with the Qingqi for a couple of months now. Started with a battery and gas cleanout, lead to a carb deep-clean followed by a carb replacement to now needing a petcock (and to be safe, a fresh set of lines all around,) hopefully I'll be getting here in the next couple weeks. Got her to run, just no idle. Oh, and the valve stem on the back tire was rubbing somewhere on the frame to the point it's shot, so that'll need addressed as well. It was fun to drive though and I can't wait to get it roadworthy and my daily driver. Other than bikes I'm a bit of a computer geek, hobby maker/crafter/builder, sci-fi/horror nut, love all things rock, old and new, love tats, cookouts, online gaming, learning new things every day, and all kinds of other crap sorry, not ever really sure what to put in these things. Oh, and 3D modeling, I love Blender. Future scooter related projects I'm planning include getting my other bike identified and repaired and, eventually, on the road for my old lady to get around with, building a small, makeshift garage for the bikes to keep them out of the elements and somewhat theft-protected, some sort-of quick and dirty addition to the bike, probably electrical, to keep it from starting to avoid theft (thinking something along the lines of yanking the CDI box and pocketing it when I'm home or at work,) 'tricking out' my scoot with some nifty colored fuel/air lines, charge port, phone/GPS mount, etc. Any other curiosities, I'm an open book, just ask.

Hey onewheeldrive, no, wasn't just the gas in the line. I'm used to that little flow by now. This just kept coming and coming. Grabbed my gas can quick as I could and caught most of it, but it definitely flowed quite a bit as the can was nearly empty when I set it down and it's full now (2 gallon little guy, but all I used to fill her in the first place.) Gonna order the new petcock soon as I can and switch it out... it's attached right to the tank, just a small, round nut of some sort. Anyone know if there's a kit to run a line out of the tank to the frame as I've seen many petcocks attached there and like the accessibility of it. Throwing on new lines as well, probably a couple weeks, short check to work with right now. Will get that all switched around, hook back up, add some gas and check the float bowl drain isn't leaking as well.
Thanks for all your responses thus far, this forum is making this task of mine seem far less daunting. Great community and great advice, will definitely keep coming back.

Alright, one last bit before I head off to work. Just went back out to fiddle with the fuel hookup to the carb, pulled it off, gas flowing out. Have it draining into a gas can now, but I understand this is not supposed to happen. Petcock or vacuum issue?

The road so far: New carb came, installed it, tried to fire it up, seemed same result at first, but tinkered, primed, and got it running, even sort of rideable. Now the problem is no idle. Stalls out if I'm not at least half-throttle. Here's a video of the 'end result' (may still be processing)... which is obviously not really the end. Oh, new carb seems to be leaking badly. Not sure if I want to crack it open and check seal or just do a return. Next steps? Replace petcock/lines, return/replace carb, drive scooter to scrap yard (kidding...sort of,)... I may end up just registering the bike and driving it up to my kid's high school. His shop teacher has offered to use it in class as a teaching tool - fix it up right and proper for just the cost of parts. Already got the carb out of the way. Thoughts?

Didn't mess with the side diaphragm as one of the screws is too tight for me to get without stripping (if it's what I'm thinking of, the little, round bit jutting off the body with two screws?) Pushing in the priming pin caused good, clear and clean gas to squirt out effortlessly. Gas is fresh and all the old stuff drained. Going to do oil once it fires up and runs for a minute or two. Not sure if it can break down over time sitting in an engine, but don't want to chance it. New carb should be here tomorrow, but most likely not before I work, so will put it on Saturday and update.

139QMB on the motor, 4-stroke. Thanks for the video man. Hope to get her running tomorrow now that I know I ordered the right carb.

I am entirely new to the scooter world and have yet to get mine on the road, so forgive a guy a possibly stupid question, but snorkel? Is that the giant, clunky airbox that came stock on my ride? If so, I'd be eager to read the answer to your question as that's the first thing I'm looking to change once I get her running (have a new carb on order, hoping it sorts me out.)

Quick follow up: Just read this: "Only four-cycle engines have a separate engine oil reservoir on the back or side, with another cap (usually yellow) for checking & filling the oil reservoir." here. There's definitely a spot to add oil and check it off the side of the engine, so is that definitive proof I've got a 4-stroke moped?

I'm new to the scooter world and not much of a mechanic so just looking to clear up some confusion. I've been without wheels of any kind for close to a year now and it really sort of sucks. My uncle recently dropped a couple of Chinese 50cc scooters off for me to tinker with and try to get running. I'm still on the first one and here's the story so far. New battery and fresh gas lead to nothing. She turns and turns and turns but never fires up. I finally worked up the courage to strip her down and try a carb clean after watching a few YouTube videos to find out it's not as scary as I thought it'd be. I got all the necessary fairings off, pulled the fuel and vacuum lines, unplugged the electric choke from the bike, then pulled the carb. Much easier than anticipated and I'm loving working on this little guy more than I ever cared to work on my cars. I got it open and the gas inside was vile. A dark, murky brown mess with water in it as well. I pulled the gasket up, it's still soft and fresh somehow (this is a 2004 bike that's barely been driven, just sat,) got both jets out and the float off. I sprayed the jets out with carb cleaner and shined them up and they seem nearly good as new now. I hit the float (the metal pendulum bit, not the plastic bits,) with cleaner, filled the carb up and let the jets and screws soak, scrubbed it all up and put it back together. I put it back on the bike, hooked it all up, tried to fire it up and BANG, she lit right up like nothing... then stalled out and wouldn't try again until I left her sitting a few minutes. Then again, starts right up then stalls. My research tells me it could be the carb needs a better, longer soak (other small inlets/outlets other than the jets that might need more cleaning,) or replaced. It's a $25 part, so I just ordered it and it will be here Friday. It works, awesome, not, we'll go from there... but here's the confusing bit... I researched my bike and found that it's listed as a 2-stroke when the carb I ordered, completely identical in every way to the carb in the bike, is a 4-stroke. This is the carb my research says should be in the bike here but what's actually there is a spitting image of this. Now, the bike on the left in the comparison at the following link is the closest thing I can find from the manufacturer to what mine looks like, but the bike on the right is an absolute spitting image other than mine's red. See here. Mine, in appearance, is a QM50QT-3E(AG) and is listed as a 2-stroke. The only 4-stroke models for that year are the QM50QT-6S (shown in the last link,) and the QM50QT-6V which looks NOTHING like my bike. The 4-stroke carb I ordered appears identical to what's in mine other than the cap on the top is black plastic presently and a brass look on the one ordered. My main question is can you run a 4-stroke carb in place of a 2-stroke all willy-nilly or is it possible some fairings were changed or a different engine put in somewhere along this bikes way? The odometer reads 181 miles and I'm prone to believe that's all it's got on it. The airbox is ridiculously clean, the carb was even far cleaner than I'd expect to find on a bike sitting as long as this one and that is as old as this one. I'll follow up with some pictures once daylight comes if it will help any, though she's all torn down right now, so we'll see. Any help is greatly appreciated.
