The article mentions Kymco has had plants in China since 1994. I think most of their 50cc & 150cc scooters globally have been made there for the better part of a decade (or more). As others have said, as long as production/purchasing is contained within Kymco plants (vs. outsourcing in China) it is a non-issue. My son got a new Super 8 for Christmas and I am amazed how many obscure parts are branded 'Kymco' on the bike. The company I work for sells retail product in China and counterfeiting there is a big deal there, so I'm assuming their plastering their brand on every part is to combat counterfeiting and ensure buyers in markets where counterfeiting is massive (South America, for example) that they are getting the real deal, even with replacement parts.

That's my scooter - except mine is the 150... So how do you like it? While there are a ton of positive Kymco reviews it seems the market really slowed down since the 2015 version came out... very few reviews from users of this new model. I figured since this redesign is based on the tried-and-true Agility platform this model should have Kymco's historical durability. I did notice the 2015 X version had a recall with hydraulics/brake issues, but it looks like the R was not impacted. FINALLY this bike will be delivered to me next Wednesday (I've been doing lots of traveling). Looking forward to it... unfortunately by the time it arrives we'll have a foot and a half of snow on the ground and highs in the low teens. I'll probably top it off with ninety three octane fuel and some Stabil and maybe remove the battery and bring that in house... it may be until April until I can really take this thing out.

I've been searching the web about scooters for weeks... funny I just came across this site with the announcement about the Super 8 50R. Just yesterday I noticed the Kymco official website had their 2017 models listed and the 50R was missing. Today I finalized the purchase of a new-old stock 2015 50R. I got a very good deal. The dealership said Kymco is discounting the old stock to clear it out and they had just received this scooter a few weeks ago, which is how I stumbled upon such a good deal. While I bought it today, I had been trying to locate a '15 or '16 for several weeks and the closest one was 50 miles away. They'll be delivering in the next week or two... delivery costs rolled into the sweet deal. I'm looking forward to it. The bike looks much nicer in person.
