Ok so lets go back about 1 year. I had been living in Taiwan for just over a year and i had just got my scooter licence. I had a new job which was outside of the city I lived in and so it was time to start scooting. So I (actually somebody else who had no idea SHE was doing ) spent 25000NT (500GBP or 822USD) for a 2004 Yamaha RS100. (just google jog100 or xc100f)
this is the only photo i have of it in its original form
anyway lets fast forward a lot. there were a million problems with it and in the past year i had to replace every single part apart from the frame and left side engine case pretty much. so why am i building it again? Because one day i decided to change my valve springs, because they had done over 70,000km, and my newest rebuild was a high compression 128cc, and some light valve bounce had occurred on the piston face. so no biggie, just removed the head and left it at a scooter shop. i got it back after a few days and..... here's where i fkd up. I didn't check the cylinder head to make sure the cam had been seated in the head correctly. i just took it for granted that when i pay an engineer to do a job that he can do the job and not FK it up. Got new gaskets and copper O rings and torqued the head down and it started no problems. so a few days pass by and it's an incredibly hot day i'm about 20km into my 80km commute to work and there's a grinding getting louder and louder. so immediately i suspect the crankshaft bearings have failed and i ditch it at the side of the road to avoid any more violent consequences. i had to take a train back home and cancel work that day. the next day i came back and it had been stolen! bearing in mind that i had let the air out of both tires and locked the steering column in an attempt to prevent this. needless to say i was fuming after spending almost 80,000NT on the bike. the next day the police recovered the bike with all of the expensive stuff removed. no surprise. here's a few photo's of what she used to look like.
