Thanks JR . Yes, by bumping down the pressure, that REALLY helped on a short ride around the side streets. I went with the 32/32 to start, then later saw rockynv 's post. I went ahead and bumped the front down for a 29/32 combo per the placard. Then it was off to the test track. A quick buzz down I-30 for a couple miles, reaching the staggering downhill indicated speed of 90mph (yeah, whatever  ). It was like riding on new tires now. oldchopperguy , Leo, you may have something there with the "Sweet Spot"and getting things dialed in.  The Givi has some squeak to it because it's riding against the front panel (which I will trim some), but with the lower psi in the Avons, the squeak has almost disappeared until a bump gets in the way.  During the quick run down the interstate, the Givi worked great at the break-neck speeds. I had my visor up all the way and the air was flowing the way anyone would hope for.  The Givi logo on the windshield is gone for good now. The bike was sitting in the sun and the emblem was warming up. I couldn't take it anymore... off it came... nice and clean. It may have only been 1/16" off level, but, it was driving me CrAzY.
For the occasional rainy day (in Texas), with a windshield, I'd like to have a rain repellent. Came across Cee Baileys the other day with their line of cleaning products.  Anyone try this or what do you use?  Thanks Ya'll Loren |

Yelloscoot,GOOD MOVE having the Honda shop mount and balance the new meats! I have a feeling you will NOT be disappointed! Speaking for my own experience with the Kymco, it's money VERY well-spent.Now... I ran errands today with much freeway riding, and, I finally hit headwinds and crosswinds so BRUTAL that keeping ANY vehicle on two wheels (or four) straight was a chore... I can't remember the last time I rode in such miserable wind, and it kept changing, blowing the old mouse left, right and head-on (killing off 10 mph INSTANTLY)... I was actually having to cock the handlebars off-center, and lean just to stay straight! My arms and shoulders are as sore as if I had been pumping iron all day, instead of "pumping mouse"! I'm glad THAT phenomenon is not common... LOL!Please keep us posted on how the Avons handle! I'm betting they will AMAZE you! Ride safe,Leo Thank you Leo. The Honda shop did a bang up job on the exchange today. They even swapped over my Dyna-Beads for me. The ride back on the highway was quite rough though, but, I think that may have been the roadway itself. I could see ripples in the pavement on the trip back. But, once off the highway, everything seemed to smooth out nicely. The Avon's do have a nice grip that makes cornering a breeze. I did call them back to inquire about the rough ride on the Interstate. He said that the Avon tires were more of a performance tire than the stock Kendas. I did notice on the tech's notes, that he had set the pressure to 36 and 38 psi. Thinking that was pretty high, I checked the sidewalls,... they state a max of 40 psi. c old. So.....that could also explain some of the rougher ride. Either way, I'm quite pleased with them so far, and can't wait to get out and put some miles on the new "Meat". rockynv , you did get a really good deal on your tires and install. Honda did mention to me, when I got there, it might be extra if the exhaust had to be removed. I agreed with no problem. I wasn't going to be busting my knuckles over a few extra bucks. Anyway..they didn't charge anything extra to remove the exhaust, but, they got me for Honda Valve Stems at $15 each. So the total out the door with mount, balance and re-install was a Buck and a Half. I'm happy and that's what matters. What really made the trip nice was the new GIVI I received it Thursday and couldn't wait to get it on. After getting the stock windshield off, I was surprised to find speed-clips instead of the "dwell nuts" that JR had mentioned. JR , you are correct, this thing is apples-for-apples. Fits like a really tight glove. I was able to get 4 of the 6 bolts back in with no problem. But two of the speed clips wanted to play a different game than I did. So I changed the rules and made two small access holes, with a Dremel and a grinding bit, to help align the clips into place with a pick tool.  It was getting late and I had to finish, but, I wasn't about to take it back off.  If I need to, in the future, I may replace the speed clips with some "stubby" wall anchors. I had read in other posts that they were 3" taller, but this one had a different model # (D210ST A) when it arrived. I'm guessing it's a compromise between the taller and shorter versions. It measures in at about 4 1/2". The improvement of the Givi over stock is substantial. The ride is much more comfy and I can leave my visor up while riding. Though I'm looking through it, instead of over it, I am getting used to it. There's only one thing that gets my goose about this windshield...........The LOGO is centered, but, not LEVEL.  Not by much, but enough that, that's the first thing I see.   Oh well, I'll take care of that later. Until then I'll just sit back and relax as the wind just blows over the top. Loren |

oldchopperguy , Yes, to the Avon's, I had just forgotten about them until JR mentioned them again. I was looking into Pirelli and Michelin but they can get a bit pricey. This will be my first time to ride on something other than a Kenda tire. Even with Yellow, when I replaced the set, I used them. I'm really looking forward to see how the Avon's perform. My quess-timation of the delivery date was completely Whacked. They arrived today. I did't know they were going to ship out of Ft. Worth by UPS. Next day delivery for standard shipping ($7.99) is, what I call, good service from Chaparral. I've used them, twice before, but don't remember such fast delivery.  I have always taken the wheels and tires off Yellow myself and removed the tires. I have a 3-spoon set to get them off, but, never could get them back on.  So off to Wally-World for them to refit the new tires. Usually for free, but their machine, scars the wheel a bit. Not this time  ...I'll take her into the local Honda Dealer, Saturday morning, for re-fitting and balancing with quality stems. I also use Dyna-Beads in her now and will have those transferred to the new Avons. So far, I'm the only one, who has ever worked on my bikes. In this case...I'll let the Pros do it.  They charge $35/tire to change or $55/tire to remove, re-fit, balance and reinstall. I'm taking the safe route this time and save a lot of headache of doing it myself. The Givi is still due in this Thursday and I'll install it before going for the tire swap. That should be a nice test at highway speeds crossing the long bridge going over Lake Ray Hubbard into Rockwall. Especially if its windy. Loren

Thanks JR . I did a lot or research last night and came across one of your posts on the late Scoot Dawg ( That was my first forum...ever). It shows the D211ST with the "reflector". I checked every link I could find for that one but no luck. I also checked around for the shorter Givi D210ST, but, the only one I could find was the one of two that Zilla had. So, to the best of my knowledge, there is only one left in the entire World. Mine should be here on Thursday. I had also found links, for the fix on the windshield mounts, but If I recall correctly they were broken. Either way, thank you for posting that info. There is an Ace just a couple minutes from me, so, that's an easy fix. Thanks oldchopperguy , Leo, I ordered a set of Avon AM63 Viper Stryke 130/60-13's today. A Friday delivery for them. I'm very interested to see if the ride smooths out with the Avon's over the Kenda's. I really like the curve on Minnie's Givi. They're very pronounced and stylish. It's nice to know that the extra flare helps with keeping the hands warm. On the mornings when its hovering at 28-37 degrees, the stock windshield has a lot to be desired. It's not just getting on the highway that the "wind" is a problem with the stock. Just normal tooling around town with the turbulence and wind noise just makes me feel like not riding. oldchopperguy JR yelloscoot May I ask why you are even considering replacing the coil on a scooter that has one that is working perfectly? What do you expect to gain? 99% of all "so called" ignition upgrades are just that so called. As I said before if you want this scooter to run without issues, strip it down and do a PDI and I'm saying go through every connection plug, check for lose bolts, replace the pitiful tire valve stems, replace the brake fluid, coolant and tranny oil. Want a smooth ride get rid of the hard as concrete tires and replace them with some Avons. Replace dim bulbs with bright LEDs. Betting money the temp gauge is a loose wire. You'll not gain anything by changing the coil or CDI, waste of time and money. Also going to synthetic oil? The difference between dino oil and synthetic oil for a scooter is when you change the engine oil you'll be throwing away $10 a quart oil with synthetic versus $3 a quart oil with dino oil. In Texas where it is hot in the summer use a good grade 20W/50W oil, I use Catrol GT, got 15k on my 2008 model 250B and I have rode it to Dallas where my sons live on 5 different occasions 416 miles one way from my house. That's over 4k in miles on 5 trips. The last time two years ago I did it in July and the temp was 106F at 5 p.m. when I arrived. I drove the piss out of it that day, in fact I've never babied this scooter and all 15k miles have been on dino oil. It doesn't use a drop of oil and still runs like a scalded ape, it'll purr down the highway at 60mph + with no issues. My 250B is now 8 years old, still has every single thing on it OEM except the fuel pump and even then I didn't replace it because I had to I just put a Mikuni on it because I got a real steal off of Ebay for 4 of them for $5 each and put it on for the heck of it. When I say OEM I mean what makes it run CDI, coil stator, R/R, carb, etc. I did also add the taller GIVI windshield and LED's for brighter/safer lights. Do a great PDI, don't fix what isn't broke, change the oil and ride it. JR Thank you JR, that's a lot of food for thought. The hotter coil and CDI , by my logic, is going to burn more efficiently for better MPG stats and easier starts on cold mornings. Though, when you put it that way,...I haven't had any real issues with starting on the freezing (low 30's), early mornings, we've had here on my way to work. First thing is to take the rain cover off and turn the ignition on while undoing the brake lock. Then I'll get it started, sometimes, take two tries. She'll chug along slowly at first then build up to idle with no problem. I'll let'er warm up for 4-5 minutes, shut'er down, then leave 20 mins. later. It's not broken.....The PDI is what I'm really apprehensive about. It's not the tightening of screws, replacing hoses, checking connectors (already have Permatex Dielectric Grease) and such. It's the removal of all the Tupperware that has me concerned. Plastic baggies, lots of photos and TLC are the key. So far, I've tried removing the cover below the windshield,...twice.  I just don't want to break any tabs, or strip any screw holes, and have things misaligned upon refitting. I already have the LED Headlights, and have, a new Signal Flasher and Brake Light Flasher on the way this week. Also, you mentioned, your Givi windshield. Would it be this Givi Windshield (they have two in-stock). If it is...what is the little "light-looking-thingie" at the base? If so, then I'll get one ordered, to arrive by next weekend. Or, if you have a different link, that would be great. The wind buffeting is driving me CrAzY. I'm wanting to get as much done as possible doing the PDI while having it all apart for the first time. They're not broken.....but need improvement.
The tires, now that you mention it,...SUCK! I had thought that Kendas were pretty good. They were, I guess, on Yellow. But, as Leo said, that was on a 150. I've been thinking I needed to look into new shocks. I had completely forgotten about Avon. I went to my usual on-line store and found the Avon AM63 Viper Stryke, on sale. They also have a Avon Viper Stryke AM63 Scooter Tire Kit with Front-120/70-13 and Rear-140/60-13 or 150/70-13. I'm just not sure if the wider rear tire will fit the rim or have clearance in the fender. Once again, not broken....just needs improvement. The oil, I'm still, up in the air about. I've had a good experience with Mobil 1 Synth., but after reading the previous posts, I'm debating. Maybe just a good quality Mobil "dino" will work for me too. you are going to like this ride you got. you can now ride on state roads without blocking traffic. you'll also find yourself further and further from home. i finally got mine to where i could feel comfortable 70-100 miles from home. it wasn't unusual for me to put 70-100 miles a day on it. just something about 2 wheels that attracts me i guess. Yes, I'm really getting used to this thing. I have been on the highway a few times now and it feels a little knarly at at those speeds. On the way back from work today the wind was blowing strong from the south. Running at an indicated 75, a gust of wind, almost blew me out of my lane. I took the next exit.  So far it has only been a couple miles at a time, to and from work, but looking forward to some exploring around. I want to find some good spots for Sooter Tag. With Spring just around the corner this is a great thread. I've enjoyed playing,...gives you a reason to get off your Bum and go for a ride. Plus,...it's fun and keeps you alert and on your bike. You can also learn more about your town/city and surrounding areas. Loren. |

This weekend is going to be like Spring here in Dallas and finally have a chance to get some good face-time in with the bike. (1) Planning on getting to the bottom of the temp gauge problem and ordered a used gauge from a 2003 Reflexjust in case. If it turns out to be just a connection, then, I'll have a spare on hand. (2) Time is due for the 500 mile oil change (third) with dino oil then on to Mobil 1 at the 1000 mark. (3) Install LED headlights. (4) Change out the brake fluid. (5) Install an LED compatible flasher. (6) Perform full PDI. Whether it all gets done, or not, remains to be seen. But, It will be a nice weekend to get something done for a change. dollartwentyfive oldchopperguy rockynv LOL...I've searched everything I can think of ie. Paypal receipts, eBay history, Fuelly notes....., I don't know anything about the coil I have, except that, it is "orange". So my best option is just to get one that I know is going to work. ScrappyDog has Orange and Red coils w/ Casoli CDI's . Any thoughts? I just need to figure out if I'm AC or DC fired. Also, should those be added after the break-in period? Thanks in advance, Loren

dollartwentyfive Yes, after replacing the stock with the Iridium, the idle did jump up a bit. The pick-up is better though, or, maybe that's just in my head. So, do you think, the Orange Coil(purchased for a 150cc) will work? I don't want to burn up the CDI or anything. Yes, I came across that earlier when I was going through the Manual. Nothing like the videos I've seen with the engine running. I haven't read into much detail about it yet, until I'm ready, still another 500 miles or so. Thanks, Loren
