akais Do you have a real honda reflex or do you have the chinese knock off engine? I am just wondering about the weep hole. I dont have the water pump removed yet but the weep hole on the block isnt as big as this 10-32 machine screw. Also does the weep hole on the bottom of the block have to line up with the weep hole on the pump? I have a real Honda Reflex. It has the horizontal water cooled engine. The weep hole is very small. On mine, actually the oil seal went bad and it was leaking oil/antifreeze mixture out of the weep hole. From what I understand, mechanical seals are actually expected to leak slightly. That's why the weep hole is there. It is only supposed to be a few drops over a long period of time. There is a mark that you line up on the edge of the pump housing and the side of the block. That will line up the weep hole with the hole in the side of the water pump housing. Do you have a clone? I assume if you do then it is a clone of the vertical Helix engine. That's what those parts are for. The Linhai engine has a different water pump altogether. I don't think it has a mechanical seal in it.

It was very easy to make and it worked perfectly. The mechanical seal is actually glued in with some sealant so unless you use this or the special Honda tool, it would be very difficult to remove it from the aluminum housing. In fact without these instructions, most people actually do not bother with this repair, they pay the $150 and replace the whole water pump assembly.

I agree so then stick with the Peak 50/50. I bought a gallon for $15 with a $5 rebate. 2 months later I got a $5 check in the mail and I had no idea why they sent it to me

akais What coolant do you recommend? I have the parts above already, the impeller and the seals, it was 19 bucks for them. Thanks for the link, i will definitely do it that way.. I used Peak premixed 50/50. It said "Phosphate and Silicate free" on the website. You could also splurge and buy Honda Antifreeze but it is expensive.

Akais, When I get all my parts and put it back together I'll be sure to post a few pictures. I must say that adding the 2nd battery was probably the best mod I've done so far. I'm definitely going to add the radio I wanted next now that I know I have the battery capacity to run it with no problem. I added a large trunk and have plenty of room for my tools and helmet now. I would like to see some pix of that battery mod. So far on my Reflex, I have changed the B Drive face to the Big Ruckus one, put in 19gm rollers, added a USB charger in the back of my underseat box, replaced the 3.5 watt underseat light with a brighter .7 watt LED. Removed the sport backrest and put on a tail off a 2003 Reflex so I can mount my top case to it, and mounted the top case. Here is a picture of it so far:

I purchased both the impeller and the rebuild kit. Superjew78 Take a look at this site, it will show you how to take apart that water pump and replace the mechanical seal. That's the part that is leaking in you picture. The instructions are for a Honda Reflex but the parts you show are exactly the same so your bike may be pretty close. Be careful removing the impeller. Do it like the instructions say and remove it after pulling the pump out. I have read several stories on the internet where people followed the service manual and tried to remove the impeller while the pump was in the bike. They broke the tab off the oil pump that drives the water pump shaft. When that happens, it is split the case time. You have to replace the oil pump. Here is the link: Reflex Water pump service I did this in an afternoon on my Reflex. The write-up is very clear and I bought all the parts to make the tool at the home improvement store for less than $10. Once you are done, make sure the anti-freeze you use to refill the bike has no silicates. Silicates will eat that mechanical seal in a few thousand miles. That may be what happened to your bike.

Akais, I got the scooter back together today, I made sure that I used the right screws and took my time during reassembly. Now, after looking at my shiny and pretty new front end with the old glazed and faded windshield I think I'm going to go ahead and order the short screen from Japan. While I'm at it I now need to buy a new fuel sending unit. I cleaned out my gas tank because it was full of rust and other junk and today while on my test ride I found that my gas gauge no longer worked. I took a chance and left the sender in the tank while I cleaned it, and I guess the environmentally safe solvent wasn't good for the sender. UPDATE: I filled up with gas & let it sit overnight with the intention of removing the panels & checking the connection on Sunday. I started it up letting it idle & the gas gauge moved to half full, then eventually to full. I guess sitting in gas overnight was enough to clean off the contacts. That's $14 I saved for a replacement part. Maxtera, I'm glad the sending unit started working. I am not sure the aftermarket one would be the same impedance as the Honda one and may not read correctly. The sending units are easy to clean if they do get messed up by either cleaning the tank or water from the gasohol. Just get a can of contact cleaner from the electrical section of your local home improvement store and spray that on the wiper part (the small metal piece that contacts the wire loop) of the sending unit. That will usually take care of a balky sending unit. I am anxious to see the short shield on your bike. That smoke shield should look great on a red Reflex. That should make all the Forza guys jealous!

Maxtera, Webike! is a website where Japanese manufacturers can advertise their merchandise. The shipping times will vary depending on that vendor. I bought a JDM sidestand for the Aero and it was in my hand within 5 working days. I have seen that short tinted windshield on their site. Maybe if my shield gets worse, l'll pull the trigger and order one. If I find a deal on a standard shield, I may try to cut one of them down too. I found that you can get the clear vinyl edging from the auto parts store. I don't think there is a difference between the low and standard shield other how long they are.

Maxtera, That's a shame about leaving it in the sun. A cheap plastic tarp would have saved it. I was given a '83 Honda Aero that spent 20 years under a tarp in someone's back yard in Florida. Other than it being faded, the plastic was in good shape. I sanded and painted it and got it to look great. The sun will really make that plastic brittle. I am glad you were able to get new for a good price. So what kind of shorter windshield do you have? Mine is a sport model so it came with the shorter windshield. I got a Givi shield to put on it in the winter. My stock shield is has some microcracks starting so I was kinda looking for another one. They don't seem to show up on EBay that often and they are a little high at Partzilla. Just wondering what you came up with.

Now the quality and thickness of the plastic varied quite a bit depending on the manufacturer but they were all styrene and that cement should work. i know the panels on my 250 were pretty brittle. ah zip ties, probably the greatest invention since baling wire and duct tape. I never knew what the phrase "it breaks if you look at it wrong" meant until I got a Chinese scooter and realized they were referring to the plastic body panels. The Japanese scooters are not great in that respect either but the Chinese take it to a whole new level! 100% on the zip ties. I always carry several different sizes.

All of my scooters were all styrene (the 'S' in ABS) for the painted parts and polyethylene for the softer black or grey non-painted parts. That was true for 2 Chinese scooters, 3 Honda scooters (including a '83 and a ' Aero), and 3 Yamaha scooters. The only other thing I have seen scooter bodies made from is steel. Now the quality and thickness of the plastic varied quite a bit depending on the manufacturer but they were all styrene and that cement should work.

Maxtera, If your body part is broken where it does not show, it can be easily glued back together. Use this: All painted scooter Tupperware is made from ABS plastic. This cement will make the break actually stronger then the original plastic. You may want to experiment with it on your old part so you will then have a spare.

Partzilla is the best! I have ordered parts there several times and since they do not keep every part in stock, it may take 3 or 4 days for them to get the part in and then ship. I just bought a leg shield, side cover and lower cover for my daughter's Vino when she had a unintentional get-off in the rain. She was Ok but the Tupperware wasn't. $220 covered what would have been well over $500 at the dealer. Bike Bandit is also another source of parts that I have found but so far nobody has beat Partzilla for price and convenience. I look all the time at parts prices on EBay and most of the time, because the EBay seller is looking at dealer pricing, I find you can buy new from Partzilla cheaper. Why pay more for something somebody pulled off a wreck when you can get brand new genuine OEM cheaper!

akais, yes I'm using the stock Reflex variator with no modification done to it. Maxtera, With the stock variator face you are probably not compressing it all the way so your top speed will be lower. The other problem with the stock face is the short ramps will cause the variator to compress prematurely which won't allow the engine to get to its maximum power. That's probably why it seems slower than your other scooter. Replace the face with a big ruckus face 22130-KFG-640 $32.28 on Partzilla. With your 21 gram rollers, you should still accelerate and get to your original 80MPH top speed.

Dollartwentyfive, Is that on a Reflex with a stock ramp face? My mileage is also just over 50 mpg while others report 65 to 70 mpg with the stock rollers. From a standing start mine revs to 6000 and then drops back to 5500 until the variator maxes out and then it will climb up to about 7500 at 75 indicated, 72 gps. I would like to sacrifice a little acceleration to hopefully gain back some mpg and top speed. That's why I would like to try sliders. I have heard that running 22 gram sliders, bumping the main jet up a notch, and putting a Polini blue spring in the driven pulley will make it seem like you added 100cc to the Reflex.
