After some research, I've concluded that it was probably caused by a wrist ( gudgeon) pin failure. This was probably bought on by severe heat caused by failure of the lower engine cover, which was melted off. More than likely, it occurred at maximum revs, the debris had nowhere to go and clattered around until it disintegrated.. I think I'll get a lower engine cover for the rebuilt engine..

So.. now the 'bent' Lance is put together. I bought the Jonway to use as spares bike for the Lance, then realized all the parts I needed for the Lance were Either worn out, broken or missing on the Jonway. So, today I started work to find the mystery reason the Jonway wouldn't start. The owner assured me it was a 'Carb' issue. Having already been fleeced once.. I was wise.. Well, here's what I found after removing those "all important" 4 bolts. If someone else tells me it "GY6 engines are only held in the frame with 4 bolts" I'm gonna scream!!! Looking Great Here ! So Far So Good!! That's not looking so good !! Good Grief Charlie Brown.. !! So, it looks like I'll be teaching myself how to split the crankcases.. Does the forum offer a tool loan service?? Looks like I'm gonna need a gear removal & variator removal tool.. Anyone got a less damaged crank for sale?? I can't begin to think what a rider has to do to cause this much damage !!

Its Fixed !! Less than 5 minutes with that bad boy. Not a mark or kink in sight.. As soon as the chain tightened, the headstock just submitted and popped back into place.. Interestingly, the neighbor said the hydraulic tool was relatively inexpensive from Harbor Freight and has paid for itself ten fold.. I'd never have believed it could be fixed so easily... Thanks all - now you know accident damage may not manifest itself readily on your scoot.. The picture is really crap 'cause the whole job was quicker than the time it took to find my camera

howdy, lol, that looks like a piston that would cause a slight lowering of the compression. you could use a really long nosed spark plug without having interferance problems lotsa miles and smiles to ya ken Thanks - More than the holed piston look at the gunk in the engine...

Without the box against the frame, the picture was so busy with all the junk in my garage. After much head scratching (and removing of bodywork AGAIN ), I concluded that the problem seems to be associated with the top of the down tube. It just looks a little crooked. There is absolutely no other signs of accident damage. Really, NOTHING. If it is accident damage (which I suspect) , it was some miraculous shunt. The neighbor across the street has a 'puller' with chains. He says we can work to straighten it tonight , well you can't make it worse! As for the previous owner - I made an offer on the scooter (ridiculously cheap) based on the - week old- DMV receipt that came along with it for $238!! Being California, I didn't really question it... After reading the breakdown, it appears $38 was for registration, while $200 was to pay off previous DUI fines!! As a cautionary tale to those out there - I bought it after making an offer without seeing it, I never met the Owner, and I picked it up in the dark !! Thanks to all of you, on the forum, who have helped me, it will be on the road again soon. I'm really happy with what I have achieved so far, I'm already considering another..

I only called it a 'Hunter' because thats what scrappys call the bodystyle for seat replacement. I think the model is a GS-R ??

Oh that doesn't look good at all. I wouldn't be riding it at all until that has been checked and double checked. If only I knew what to check

howdy, do you notice the front end flexing when you sit down on the seat? try holding the front brake and trying to move the scooter forward or back and see if you get any movement of the tire in relationship to the body. it does look as if there is a problem at the top of the shock tubes lotsa miles and safety to ya ken The shocks (forks) move freely in the stanchions, movement is fluid. The front wheel is tight in the axle & no play is evident

Only a few possibilities, the Tree is bent , the Body panels moved forward or the Front frame part that holds the tree is bent, but to get into that shape the scoot was in a OUCHY and that is why the guy sold it. Alleyoop I'm just looking at it right now. Thats a shaddow cast by the camera

If it ran and then stopped - its something simple. Opposed to "I ran it, it went BANG, now it doesn't run", which is a problem.
Did you check the hose is connected To the bottom of the carb. It needs to be connected to to that weird valve thingy bolted to the cvt cover, otherwise no vacuum .
