The solenoid is good, and the starter spins the engine when the side cover is off (the stator is out of the engine), so I know I am getting power to the starter and it is capable of turning. However, when I replace the cover, and the stator is in the rotor, the starter no longer spins the engine. I've narrowed it down to either the starter is too weak to turn the engine with the magnetic force of the stator, or there is a problem with the underrun clutch. I am leaning away from the underrun clutch, as when I manually rotate the rotor in one direction it rotates freely and does not engage the engine, when I manually rotate it the reverse way, it does engage the engine, which in my mind means that it is working. Just wondering the thoughts of others who may have had a similar issue. I have ordered both parts and they should be here tomorrow or saturday.

I have a 150cc that when I hit the starter, I get the click and power to the starter, but it doesn't turn the engine. I removed the right cover removed (which also removes the stator), I hit the starter for a second and it turns the engine. I replace the cover, and hit the starter for a second and the relay clicks, but the starter won't spin. I opened it up again to check the underrun clutch, and turning the rotor one way it spins freely, turn the opposite way, it spins the engine, making me believe the underrun clutch is good. Right now I am thinking a weak starter that cannot turn the engine with the magnetic force from the stator in place, since when I remove the cover it spins the engine. Any thoughts?

I have a 2008 cfmoto 150. I am having a starting issue. Done all the basics, charged battery, verified relay is good, etc. I have power to the starter and when I have the side cover off and I hit the starter for a second it spins the engine. Once I re-install the side cover, when I hit the starter, I hear the relay click but the starter does not turn. I removed the side cover again and am able to turn the roter by hand one direction freely and the opposite way it turns the gears. Hit the starter for a second and it turns the engine. Re-assemble and the starter won't turn. I am thinking bad starter, but someone else said bad overrun clutch. What's your opinions?
