I have installed some LED lights around my instrument panel with a switch and they work great but my problem is I can turn them on even when scooter isn't running. How can I make it so scooter has to be running for lights to turn on?

I bet you are absolutely pumped. How far have you gotten? I am assuming these pictures were taken last night. Where did you order these from?

Firstly, I would like to say thank you to carasdad for your service for our country. That is quite a career you have going there. While most of your response sounds like a foreign language to me, some of it I do understand. The real reason for my asking was to find out if I purchase said rectifier, should I be looking for something bigger and better than what I currently have installed. I have been having some battery issues in the past and wanted to know if there was a reason that the battery wasn't charging like it should. I think I have narrowed that problem down to a faulty positive battery cable. But while I had my scooter apart, I was looking at things I could improve. I think your response has helped me. So thank you.

Well maybe a couple of them, but I am just trying to get a grasp of the electronics of my scooter. My first question is, the Rectifier charges the battery while the scooter is running, correct? And are the Rectifier and Regulator the same thing? Secondly, are there different "Strengths" of recitifiers? Meaning, does one type of rectifier charge the battery faster, stronger, better, etc..? Now, my main question, and I only ask this because I saw a post from tvnacman about there being different 4-pin rectifiers, how do I know which rectifier to purchase? It seems that people are having a terrible time finding good ones.

Heck yeah! I love this scooter. I love the challenge. Currently installing new headlights and looking to install some lights in the instrument panel as there aren't any. If there are, they do not work. Any suggestions?

Thank you all for your help. I just thought I would give a quick update to my "grrrr grrrr grrrr" problem. After much research, I decided to try to attack the problems that I could attack. I determined there was either one of 3 problems: 1.) there was no spark, 2.) the starter was bad 3.) it was not getting gas to the engine. Being that it was after 5:00 on a Friday, I really had little option to what I was going to try to fix. I found a sparkplug at Advance Auto parts and decided I would attack that first. After watching a couple videos on how to change the scooter spark plug, I got home and looked at my scooter and said, "where in the heck is my spark plug?" So, I started taking all of the plastics off of my scooter. Wow! What an undertaking. After I finished taking all the plastic off, I found the spark plug in the underside of the front of the engine. A little difficult to get to, but I managed. Put the socket on the old spark plug, attached the wrench, and presto old spark plug out. I knew as soon as I got the spark plug out that it was probably the cause of my problem. It was brown and nasty looking. I installed new spark plug and what do you know... scoot started right up. So, I put the plastic back on (which took about a half an hour) and was going to take her for a spin. Started revving engine a bit and pulled out of the driveway and scooter died. Oh was I mad. (mind you, it was about 12:30am at the time, but my wife and I had a early morning ride planned for the next day, so nothing was stopping me.) I had purchased a John Deere fuel filter from Lowe's that I had read would be compatible, so I decided to change that back to the old one, put a little gas in the carb and the scoot started right up. Went to drive down the driveway and it kind of sputtered and shut off. Tried to refire and nothing, not a sound, not a chirp. UGH! So I decided to check on that awesome fuse that comes out of the battery and low and behold, my battery wire was broken. So I reconnected the battery wire and BAM, scooter fired right up and ran her around the block. Came back home and finished reinstalling some pieces that I left off just to get it to run. Woke up the next morning to go on a 30 mile ride down to the beach and everything was awesome. So, the moral of my story is... THANK YOU ALL for your input on my problem as well as others because every bit of information is helpful and you just never know what problem you will encounter next. The 2nd moral of my story is... NEVER GIVE UP! If I can fix my scooter than I would say anyone can fix theirs. THANKS AGAIN!!!!

Thank you guys so much for your help. I will check these things when I get home from work and hopefully some of you will be around later when I am in a pinch. Is it possible to get a starter anywhere besides online? Like a Harley shop or tractor supply or hardware store? What is the model of the starter?

Hello everyone! I know that you guys are probably sick of hearing this but my scooter will not start... 2004 Adventurer 150cc GY6. It has a brand new battery in it and when I try to start it makes like a grrrrr grrrrrr grrrrr sound. It sounds like it doesnt have enough power to start up. I am guessing it is either a bad spark plug or a bad starter. What are your thoughts out there?
