Well I determined last night that I have an AC CDI and ordered one online. I really just want to have it as a back up in case of a failure on the road; cheap insurance since we will be in the middle of nowhere for 3 weeks with our scooters.
So I will install the orange CDI in my two scoots and use the OE as a backup. Hopefully there will be some improvement.
Thanks for all the information and assistnace!

I am really not sure if it made a difference or not because I changed everything before I even started the scooter for the first time. Thanks

Here is a time lapse of me doing the PDI on my second Evo.
Replaced all the fuel lines, vacuum lines, new valve stems, valve adjustment, added 12v outlet, new coil, spark plug, etc....

Thanks all....
I already have an upgraded 'red' coil and iridium plug. I was going to buy a spare CDI just to pack with my on my trip but will buy an upgraded unit instead of stock and then just use the stock CDI as a backup.
I just need to determine if my CDI is AC or DC; I believe it is AC but have not checked it with a multi-meter.
The prices range significantly between the OE CDI units at $8, orange units at ~$10, and "racing" CDIs at over $30.
I am leaning towards one of the orange units, I don't believe I need an adjustable CDI. That would be one more thing I could tune incorrectly.

I ended up getting a magnetic plug off of eBay for $10. M12x1.5 Works great... www.ebay.com/itm/310389941458New one on the left, OE on the right. I changed the oil in the scoot before the first startup and installed the magnetic plug at that time. Here it is after 127km with the magnetic plug

Is a new CDI worth it?
I really don’t need to remove the rev limiter but I would like to get a stronger spark if possible.
I have read a lot of conflicting information regarding the CDI units. Some say they fail often and others have had the same OE CDI for over 10k miles. I have also read that the timing advance doesn’t make a difference.
Does anyone one have firsthand experience with CDI units that make some kind of improvement?
What type/brand of CDI is it and what gains did you see?
I have a ATM150-A and believe it is an AC CDI unit. The only “upgrades” I have made to the scoot is a new ‘red’ coil and an iridium plug. At this time I don’t plan on making any other changes.
Thanks

There is a number to call if you speak Chinese. Not sure that would prevent a scam. The site has only been around a few months and only registered for a year. I would think any company that plans to be in business more than a year would register their company website for more than a year. who.godaddy.com/whoischeck.aspx?domain=MMMCOMING.COM

How long can I expect the OE drive belt to last?
Should I replace it now? Only 127km on my scoot?
When I do replace it should I use the exact same size? Or is there a benefit in changing the belt size?

Interesting, my 2010 TaoTao, does not match the VIN decoding on several points. The model designation does not appear on the list, I have a air cooled CVT with a belt drive and the VIN decoding says liquid cooled chain drive, the origin code is L5N not L9N.n Well at least the plant location code is correct. Interesting..... There is an older vin designation on that same site but I would not think it is different.

Mine does the same thing, When overfilling the gas tank it drips out. The ATM150/EVO150 is not a good offroad bike! The suspension is rock hard, almost feels like solid rubber. It's not going to be pleasant riding on those, offroad. Thanks for the info... It will be short trips to connect to other paved roads.

I have a problem with the scooter I finished today. It is leaking gas and a fast rate of 2 drips per second out of the carb overflow tube. Would this be caused by a faulty petcock? Or possibly a the bowl drain faulty? I figured it out....I fixed it by tightening the screw at the bottom of the drain assembly.
