That'll probably be what'll end up happening. My only concern is that I'm only 5'5'' and have fairly short legs, I'm afraid I wont fit on their bikes. I'd much rather be on a bike I chose myself that fits me comfortably.

This might be a dumb question, but how do you get your scooter to the motorcycle safety course if you only have your permit. In PA, you're required to have a licensed motorycleist with you while operating if you have your permit. So, how am I supposed to transport my bike to the m.s.c. class if I'm not allowed to ride without supervision. In P.A. they law says that you may operate a motor-driven cycle (motor scooter) with a class C license if the bike is not over 50 cc's and the brake horse power does not exceed 5. So am I going to need to have a 50cc and my Class C, before I can get myself to the MSC? I'm already considering a 50cc to learn around my immediate area. I'll upgrade later. I'm very confused however.

Thanks for the input guys. Anyone know if there's gonna be a problem titling these in Pennsylvania since there was all that trouble with the vins on Chinese scooters. I'll probably talk with the dealer when I actually purchase a bike but a heads up on what I'm dealing with always helps.

Actually, the guy advertises sym, Aprilla, puma and roketa. He's the only dealer around with the mid tier bikes available. At the time he only had pumas and seemed to really enthusiastic about the brand. I'm not sure if he has all of those brands but I'm hoping so I can look at different ones.
If the bikes are good, I'm heavily considering the jakester 150. Im pretty short and I could easily place my feet on the ground. Sent from my LIFE PLAY using proboards

About a year ago I decided I wanted a scooter for economics and the cool factor. After spending a year looking at the online drop shippers (which I'm still considering) I went to a local dealer here in Pittsburgh. Most of his inventory was from Puma. This was actually the first I had heard of the brand. He gave me a nice little book of their models and I checked out their website. That's the most I've seen of them. I did see a discussion somewhere that offered limited details.
Anyone know what Puma Cycles is all about and if they're solid bikes?
The only other dealers around here sell Hondas and the like. They're just a bit out of my price range as a first-timer. Sent using proboards

Haha. I wasn't planning on waring a full faced helmet while on my bicycle. But now that you mention it...

There's no way I could put myself in debt.... Seeing as I don't hold a credit card and any type of financing is not available to minors... My job pays pretty well for someone of my age. Of course I would use neccecary safety gear. I'm buying a road bicycle this week and won't even ride that without a helmet. I'm also going to equip it with headlights and leds to make myself as visible as possible. I feel like I kind of just got judged as a wreck less teenager who wouldn't take safety into account... I value my safety a little to much... Not all of you who replied. Just maybe one or two. And no I'm not buying the bike because I think its a step to a two wheeled life... I'm just looking for some cheap transportation for right now, walking is a bummer. Oh any thanks for all the tips on pricing of good riding gear.

Actually in pa the MSF courses are free. And all riders under 18 need to take them to get a class-m license. In regards to maximum speed, I don't plan to go over like 40 mph. As far as PDI part replacement I don't plan on quitting my job any time soon and as I'm only 16 and live with my parents I have the expendable income for any needed maintenance. Thanks for all the replies. This is all helping a lot. So far I'm leaning to the Chinese sooters mainly because of the affordability and the fact that I won't be doing any constant heavy duty commuting. Oh and I don't exactly like the retro styled scooters. Just not my style

I'm getting so antsy. I want to just magically conjure up 2000 bucks and run to a dealer right now. Might be a good idea to get my license first but what the heck.

I might invest in one in a year when I finally save up enough for a bike. As far as ordering online goes, it doesn't seem too bad. From what I've read you can pretty much tighten some bolts that have come loose during shipping. If there's any major problems they are quick to get replacement parts. As long as the dealer is reputable of course

great idea. But I'm wondering if a windy day would cause problems for that.

[replyingto=sylvrekat]SylvreKat[/replyingto]Kat, While I may not totally get off on the mechanical aspect. I'm not totally against some maintenance and tune ups. I'm a quick learner too so I could probably pick it up in a snap.

Wow. That's a cool mod.wouldn't have even thought that would be possible. What can you tell me about security? The area I live in is not exactly the safest.
