So I've been trying to get this scooter of mine up and running for a while now. I actually had a moment of triumph getting it to start and run, but now it wont idle at all.
I did a lot of research and set the guages to .004, as well as adjust the idle mixture. Nothing seems to be helping. It still is very scetchy when I get it to start, the rpms like to shoot up and then come back down till it cuts off again.
I did notice just yesterday that when I start it theres a very large spark that seems to be coming from the wire that attatches to the cover where the guages are located (I'm still new to this whole scooter thing, I'm not really sure what its called). Any idea what could be the problem?
Also I looked at my buddys scooter which is similar to mine (I have a 2007 peace sports, he has a new 2013 vip) and noticed that there were two wires that attached to the screw that holds on the cover to the where the feeler guages are located, (sorry again) when looking at mine i noticed that it only had one wire going to it. I believe this may be part of my problem...but as I said before I don't know much and am not even sure what these wires are or what purpose they serve. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

So the battery turned out to be no good. I replaced it and it started right up. It was awesome...sort of. It still wont idle for anything. I read up on how to adjust the idle mixture, but I just cant seem to get it right. mainly I cant get my scooter to idle without the back wheel turning. it just gives up and dies on me if i turn it any slower. Any advice?

So I picked up a battery tender junoir, charged the ol battery up, and it turned over like a charm. I'm still having some major issues though... I got it to start, but it wouldn't idle, so I decided to mess around with the idle screw on the carb. In the process my battery went completely dead again. Had it 100% charged last night, and this morning while working on everything it just gave up on me! Is this just a bad battery? Should I go grab a new one? Or is there something in the circuitry thats causing it to die so fast? If its possible I know less about electric stuff than about motors. So any suggestions you have would be amazing.
Also Can anyone help me with the idle situation? The scooter just dies whenever I can get the battery to hold a charge long enough for it to start.

So I have this used 2007 Peace Sports 50cc I picked up a couple months back. It only had 554km on it. I got it for a good price and thought it would be an easy fix. Apparently I was mistaken. I've replaced just about everything in this stupid thing and simply cant figure out why it isnt working.
On some advice I got from an earlier thread I replaced the carb. It actually started and I rode it around for a while, but then it quickly died after about 15min of riding.
From what I can gather there is a problem with the vacuum line somewhere. The engine would turn over and all that jazz, but no gas was being pulled into the carb. Thus far I've replaced my petcock, cdi, spark plug to a ngk, set both my gauges to .004, cleaned the gas tank, just recently replaced the intake manifold, and all the air lines with new tubing.
Just now after installing the new intake I tried to start her up and the thing wouldnt even turn over. It just made a really weird noise. It basically just buzzed at me. Tried to kick start it with no luck. And whenever I try to start it regularly I just get that strange buzzing sound.
So to all you scooter doctors out there...whats the problem with my little scooter?

[replyingto=david3336]david3336[/replyingto]Yeah, before I swapped out the carb I dumped gas down the intake and cranked it. Started right up. Everything else seems to be running fine. From what I can tell Its just not getting gas into the carb to deliver it to the engine

[replyingto=pmatulew]pmatulew[/replyingto]Yes! That appears to me to be the problem.
I'll try to get that tested out today and let you know what the results are. My tank is gravity fed, it flows down to the petcock. Whoever had the scooter before me had the gas line going down and then back up to I shortened it to flow down all the way to the carb.

[replyingto=pmatulew]pmatulew[/replyingto]Well when I start it and turn the throttle a little I can see it pulling the gas to the petcock, but it's not making it to the other gas line on the other side that runs into the carb, and like I said its a brand new petcock, I havn't even used it yet. I heard that the intake manifold can crack and create an air leak? Which is why I ordered a new intake to see if it would help with the suction to draw the gas into the carb

I have a brand new petcock installed. I thought that was originally the problem so i changed it out. And when I pull the vacuum line off the intake and suck on it gas comes pouring out. Unless I just had two bad ones, which would probably be my luck anyways.

Well I drained the tank, cleaned out the carb and all and so far no luck. I think I found what the problem is, but I'm still going to need some asistance. I noticed that when I crank my scooter it isnt getting enough suction to draw the gas into the carb. I ordered a new intake manifold and some new vacuum lomes to try and solve the problem. But heres where I really have some trouble...I'm wanting to make sure that I am hooking everything up correctly. My scooter, unlike the majority of scooter diagrams I have looked at, doen't have a t-splitter in the vacuum line, my intake manifold has two vacuum ports and no of them lead to the carb. But nearly every fuel/vacuum diagram I look at has a vacuum line going into the carb. So now I'm all confused! if you could give me a pointer in the right direction I'd be forever grateful.

[replyingto=scootnwinn]scootnwinn[/replyingto]I didn't think to drain the old gas out... I did get some new gas and put it in the tank. Do you think that would cause it to just give out like it did? And I set both of the gaps tp .004, I have a 2007 50cc peace sports. I heard that .003 is slao good for both gaps. I might try and get them a little closer and see if that helps

So I bought this scooter that wasn't running, after much research, and some guess work I got it running. I'm new to this whole scooter thing so anything you can help me with would be awesome! Long story short I ended up replacing almost everything I could think of. After finally replacing the carburetor I got it up and running. It had a little trouble idling at first, but I assumed that it was just because it hasn't run in at least a year or so. Anywho when I took it out on its first joyride it was doing great, I noticed that when It was running faster it would feel like it was going to give out, so I just didn't push it too much. Anyway 15 min into it the thing just goes out. I tried to start it over and over and after 15min of trying and turning the throttle a little it started again only to die in like 1min. Does anyone have an idea of what I should do to get it up and running again?

SO my new carb should be in today...fingers crossed that it works. But in the meantime I have a question. I was looking for a replacement intake manifold and noticed that mine has two ports. Ive looked all over but havn't had much luck finding one with two ports. Is it possible to use an intake with one port and use a t-splitter in the vacuum line? And if so how would I hook that up? Or does anyone know of a place where I could get an intake with two ports?

[replyingto=tvnacman]tvnacman[/replyingto]So I took the intake off and dumped gas down it while cranking and it started up! It only went for a second but it was the most glorious sound I've heard! Does this mean that I should get a new intake? Or possibly a whole new carb? What would you suggest?
