Almost afraid to look at the nightly news lately. In pretty short time we lost ELP Founder Greg Lake, Allen Thicke, Carrie Fisher, Rick Parfitt, Vera Rubin, Ricky Harris, Joey Boots, George Michael and a number of others.
2016 sure has been quite a year for losses.
Lets ride safe and make it through these next few days and into 2017. Hopefully it will be a milder year.

Keith Emerson too; back in March. ELP is my favorite group and was my first introduction to serious and popular music using synthesizers. Best keyboard player I ever knew of. But there is a young blind girl that can play his stuff darned near as good. (Rachel Flowers) I can't read a note of music, but enjoy twiddling around with a Novation Supernova II But yeah, they're dropping like flies this year. Googled for a list of celebs that passed away this year and was utterly stunned by the number of them and who they were. www.thehollywoodgossip.com/slideshows/celebrities-who-passed-away-in-2016/Makes me feel my mortality... 60, but still going strong

The tally for 2016 has been pretty great including my own mother who sang with the Benny Goodman Orchestra.

Now Carrie Fisher's mom, Debbie Reynolds (actress) passed away. Never heard of her, but thought I'd add it here.

Now I'm getting creeped out... Almost makes me feel better about not being famous.

Now Carrie Fisher's mom, Debbie Reynolds (actress) passed away. Never heard of her, but thought I'd add it here. Sad that so many don't know the great leading ladies but then fame is fleeting and fickle to be sure. Watch Singing in the Rain and The Unsinkable Molly Brown which are Classics. She worked in TV until last year and her career spanned 60 years. Death of ones children is hard to deal with at any age.

It's one of those things where I just can't pinpoint face, name, and movie.
I like watching some older stuff like that every once in awhile. It's a whole different world than today's big/little screen.
My grandma always had that channel on that played movies like that all day (AMC?).

My daughters came home one day and told me how nice the Flight of the Phoenix was and when they told me who was in it I realized it was a flash bang CGI remake and I had to do something about it. We started watching the originals together and they now seek them out on their own. What the older movies lacked for in technology they more than made up for with actual acting. They were worn out after watching the original Flight of the Phoenix in Glorious Black and White with Jimmy Stewart, Sir Richard Attenboro and Ernest Borgnine since the acting kept them involved instead of the special effects keeping them from falling asleep.
Here is an interview with Ernest Borgnine's take and reaction to not having young folks know who he was:

Loved Fanfare for the Common Man by ELP. I loved that is was the theme music for CBS Sports Spectacular for years. My favorite ELP tune was From the Beginning, or something to that effect. It was mainly acoustic guitar, with a few solos on the synthesizer and electric guitar. Never understood why it was omitted from the ELP greatest hits album.

Lucky Man, From The Beginning and C'est La Vie really highlighted what he could do with those 200 Series Gibson's that he was so fond of. Lucky Man (they almost did not record this but made it a last minute addition to fill out the time left for a full album): From The Beginning: C'est La Vie: Visiting Gibson Guitar Studio for a party where he was presented with the newest Gibson 200's and played unrehearsed:

When I was in the Marines, we went to 29 Palms every fall for desert training. We had to drive across a dry lake called Emerson Lake to reach our objective. ELP tunes always passed through my mind while crossing that dry lake.

Yesterday saw the passing of Allan Williams who gave the Beetles their start and even drove them to their gigs in his old van. They repaid him initially by decorating his basement.
William Christopher from Mash was lost to Cancer yesterday too.

Loved Fanfare for the Common Man by ELP. .. You are aware that this is technically a remake? Aaron Copland composed the original for full symphonic brass plus percussion. It's one of those songs where the percussion is treated like an actual section, rather than a background supplement to the wind instruments. >'Kat
