That bike is hideous.

Wow. Don't pull any punches on my behalf there, Jarlaxle.
>'Kat, whose tastes apparently run to hideous. Hence my love of old Taurus wagons, too.

Most new bikes are hideous, looking like the designer watched Robocop or Tron while on LSD or absinthe. While I don't like them (I despise front wheel drive), the pre-1996 and post-1999 Taurus wagons look fine.

I thought the DN01 looked cool, but it was priced like a Ducati. The low, squatty fairing reminded me of a pro stock drag bike. -I do agree with Jaraxle about the styling of motorcycles in recent years. The faceted bodywork of the KTM Dukes reminds me of an insect. The beaks on the adventure bikes like the GS650 don't appeal to me either. -Fortunately, unlike a car, the bodywork on a motorcycle can be changed relatively inexpensively.

The B400 uses a 140/80-14 front and a 150/70-13 rear tire...I recall the Silverwing uses the same sizes. OE tires are Bridgestone Hoops, I recall H-rated. One reason is a larger rear tire would eat into the underseat storage. The odd floorboards are for a couple reasons. One is a spot for the pillon rider's feet. Another is tough to see in photos: there are cufouts on both sides, making it much easier for a short rider to get both feet down. Stock, a B400 tops out about ...still pulling, but on the redline. With Dr. Pulley sliders, mine will comfortably exceed that speed, though I've not topped it out since the swap. A 650 will top out around 115...I think also redline limited. Also...according to each and every review I have seen, a Sportcity 250 will not exceed 80MPH (actual) on level ground. You can't believe everything that you read. Aprilia goes conservative on their bikes. Some of their 50cc scooters and motorcycles are capable of 65/70 mph and their 125 cc motorcycles capable of over 100. At 100 the Sport City is not near redline and does not hit the rev limiter. You will not hit 100 without a fairing though. The stock wind diverter is not really for interstate riding. Mind you that I only did 100 once according to my GPS and that was because I was initially confident that since the spec said 80 that I could not go much faster than that keeping up with interstate traffic. When I nodded down to see the gps since the chin bar blocks it from view I was shocked to see triple digits. I do not make it a habit of pursuing the ton but now know that it is there.

You know, rocky, those BVs are a sweet ride with good big tires.... Or else you can always look for a Honda DN-01, if you really want style with power with handling-- (aw look, he's GRINNIN' at you!) Or you can just stick with your beloved SC. I mean, sure, I could've traded or sold off my Taury years earlier. But I LOVE that car! He was everything I needed in a car. I'll warn you, sure you can go for something newer and avoid big repairs for a while and even get new better tech. But it'll never be the same as what you got. >'Kat, STILL missing her old Taury-wagon I tried one and they are top heavy. The CTX700 DCT is better balanced. NM4 didn't sit good for me either: The NC700X puts the riding pegs into the back of my calves at a stop light but was nice when underway:

OMG, YOU GOT TO DRIVE A SHARK? I am SO!!! jealous, rocky! I wouldn't think they'd be too top heavy since the all the runnings are low and only the gas tank sits at top. But I'm almost as much a physicist as I am a mechanic ! All I know is I've loved that shark-style since the first pic I saw. I'd seriously slobber if I could see one real life. So let me live vicariously--what was it like besides top heavy? Huh? Huh? Give me all the yummy about my Shark, please! >'Kat

Jarl, I know exactly which model Taurus you despise. The same pretty much every other person except the Ford execs despised. The model known as the round years (edit--excuse me, the RRRROOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNDDDDDDDDDuh years) 'cause every possible aspect of the Taurus was based on the Ford Oval. Gack. >'Kat

The gas tanks on the better balanced ones are actually below the seat while what looks like a gas tank is actually a glove box/helmet compartment on some of them.

Weight on the bottom of a machine is not a good thing,,,the geniuses at honda racing made a f1moto bike with the fuel tank on the bottom,,,it was one of Hondas most gigantic colossal fails ,,,you need to have weight above rolling axis or you get sluggish turn in,and very ill handling,,,,,take a base ball bat and balance it on your hand big end up,,,then try it little end up,,,huge difference,,,lots of people got fired over that one,,,it ruined quite a few careers,,,,and I'll add that most of these so called scooters are actually low and mid framed motorcycles and not scooters at all,,,not as many youngsters are standing up to be counted as motorcyclists,,the same reason why they are not importing manual shift scooters and we are seeing more and more automatic cars and eventually bikes will be autos,,,laziness is a big part,,,and the two wheeled set is aging,,,I got rid of my Vespa auto,,,couldn't stand it and wait to get rid of it,,,and call me an antique but I'm not in love with the new style designs,,,I'll take a mid 80's- 's standard bike over just about anything being made right now,,,altho I would have plopped down a deposit on the genuine g400c but didn't get any semblance of a release date,,it's a modern retro standard,,,my kind of bike

On a motorcycle you can overdo it with the topside weight and the DN-01 was beyond that limit for me. You really felt it wanting to keel over at stops especially if there was a dip in the road that required you to lean to get one foot down. Could be Honda overcompensating for their last mistake but both bikes I have found far too extreme in top heaviness were Honda's.

OMG!!!!! IT HAS A GLOVE BOX? ?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You know, I'd probably buy one and he'd (they all surely MUST be "he"s) mostly sit parked in the garage (yeah, right there next to poor Peej who's STILL waiting on a dry day or not-busy day to take me to work!) and only come out for some rally or another. You know, something where you want folks to notice your bike. Oh boy howdy, they'd notice my Sharky for sure! Sigh. Maybe some day I'll win the super-lottery and can splurge.... >'Kat

Play Goldylocks for kicks and grins before setting your sights to tightly on one particular model.

I dunno, rocky. That's pretty much what I did with Peej.... Seriously, I can't really see me driving around all that much on any actual motorcycle, even an automatic one. Esp one that big-engined. Like I said, only if I win the super lottery, and then he'd only go to the Show 'em off -type rallies. I just really really love that sharky sharp-nosed look, esp with the headlights making him grin atcha! >'Kat
