My son has an electric scooter/bicycle - one of the easy-to-work-on-the-rear-wheel-of kinds with a hub motor and no disconnect for the motor wire...
He has had it since last July, and the rear tire (of course - never the easy to replace front one) was worn to the cord. So, I ordered the proper tire (or so I thought) from the local electric bike store (there is one in Port St. Lucie, close to where I work, but not close to home - so getting the electric scooter there without a truck would have been problematic.
The electric bike store person asked if it was a tubeless or tube-type tire. I was
% sure it had a tube, but I asked what the difference was between the 2, and she said " the tubeless tire has more plies - and you can use a tubeless tire with a tube if you'd like" - so I ordered a tubeless tire and a new tube. I suspect that a tubeless tire may be harder to get on a wheel than a tube-type tire, but I digress...
Anyway, my son and I attempted the tire removal/replacement. We actually got the new tire and tube on the rim- but, we punctured the new tube while getting the tire on the rim (of course, we did not have a tire tool - we used a screwdriver!
) Now, we could not get the tire off so as to put the old tube (which was still good, thank God!) back in.
So, I called Stuart Scoot - a place that rents scooters, Scoot Coupes, bicycles, and electric bicycles in Downtown Stuart, FL -
stuartscooter.com/. My wife and I rented Scoot Coupes a few times from them before I bought the Baccio. I spoke with Steven (and this was a Sunday, mind you), who appears to have been there as their scooter/small engine mechanic for about 4 months now. I explained my stupidity, and he said that he would be able to fix it.
My oldest son (who has a truck) carted the scooter over to Stuart from Palm City - not far. I happened to have Monday off, and scooted over to the shop on my scooter to see about my son's scooter...
Steven was about to start working on my son's bike, and said it would be ready in about an hour or so. He seemed to know what he was doing, and I asked how much it would cost for an oil and gear oil change - he said $30-$35.
To make a long story short, he repaired the tire issue, re-threaded some mis-threaded bolts, tightened everything up, and adjusted the brakes - for $40. I was happy!
My son came to me after driving it home and said "my scooter doesn't feel the same now!" He asked me to take it for a ride. The first thing I noticed was the lack of rattles and the smooth feel of the bike. I went back and said to my son "oh - do you mean that it doesn't rattle anymore, and rides smoother, like a brand new bike?" He thought and said "oh - that might be it..."
Anyway, Steven @ Stuart Scoot gets my
for excellent service! I will soon see how he is with a 150cc Baccio...
