The 42/16 gears are taller than the 49/17. Check the graph out in this link here (hit the "show more" when you get there): 49ccscoot.proboards.com/post/195681/threadI only have the 47mm, and there is no way I'd go taller than 49/17 without other mods. I'd probably never hit top speed if I did have 42/16 unless there was a good wind behind me, if it was in my face forget about it- I'd be slower than molasses and probably lower reachable top speed than with stock gears (no joke). I've actually thought about going to the shorter gear set 50/16 and bumping my roller a tad heavier, because of windy days. Funny thing is no one seems to carry the 50/16 gears anymore here in the USA and I'm very surprised about that. Like I said though, I only have 47mm bbk and no other major mods.

Ive tried 16/42 16/50 and 17/49 i like the 17/49 the best stock varaitor and 5 gram dr pulley sliders i weigh 180. Btw the 52mm ncy bbk is the best with the hoca 52mm a close second then the airsal 50mm if you can find one.

I had mr rad tomos sprint w/ 44mm Airsal kit and she did whomp. Thanks brotter...I only have a mere 50mm on 4t now. I like the idea of the thick walls as I may get carried away. I sold my 250cbr (2011) cause I live out in boonies.

I can't imagine riding with a 50mm with stock gears (I weigh 145-150), my rpms would be screaming at 6.5g rollers for sure, and probably the 7.5g, too.
I tried 7g and 7.5 with the 47mm with stock gears and even then at top speed it got iffy. That's why I did the gears in the first place (besides higher top speed). I'm sure with the 50mm it'd be worse.
For the most part: 39mm I ran 6.5g with stock gears 44mm I ran 7g with stock gears 47mm I ran 7.5g with stock gears 47mm I use 6.5g or 6g with 49/17 gears
My new engine has the 47mm (came with it installed) but I haven't weighed the rollers. I guarantee the gears are not stock (for whatever they throw in 50cc) either-- no way, lol. I'll be checking the weight of the rollers and counting the gears teeth here next week.

Not sure what your goal is anymore, you weren't happy with 7.5g or the 6.25(?)g rollers and now you want to use 6g sliders? You rpms will be even higher than the 7.5g.
