I hear a rattle - possibly in my cvt. Can you hear it too? What do you think it is?

A loosen piece of metal or a screw is causing havoc inside the CVT, take the cover off and inspect before the belt snaps

Is it loudest fromnthat side ? Ricard is correct. You must take the cover off and inspect it. Is it a 150 or 50cc. You can listen too it with the cover off.

It's a 50. I got it as a non running project. I got it going and heard that rattle, then it was gone. Now it's back. I'll take off the cvt cover tonight and take a look

I'll take off the cvt cover tonight and take a look If you don't notice anything , make sure you do a walk around while its making the noise . this way you can be 100% sure what side its coming from .

Sounds like your starter Bendix is not fully retracted, and is bouncing on the drive face gear teeth.

Pull the starter Bendix, check the springs, they should snap the collar and gears back smartly. If it's bad, replace (about $15). Check the drive face with teeth, check both exterior and interior teeth, replace if they are worn or missing. Check where the drive face sits on the crankshaft, hopefully the splines are OK, replacing the crankshaft is a pain.

I took the cover off, nothing loose in there. Put it back on and took it for a run around the block and it was fine. Well, I guess I just need to ride some more and see if I hear it again

A spring may have broken inside the clutch and its bouncing around in the bell
