Just got my 08 Xingyue260 back on the road for one whole day and this happens..Hit the start button She turned over a couple times then nothing. Starter button goes dead, ground wire attached at coil mounting hole that runs to swing arm (same place where battery is grounded) getting very hot. I noticed a few days ago this wire had a lot of missing insulation. The previous owner had the coil zip tied to the frame rail, so it's only ground was this tiny frayed wire going to the swing arm. My GUESS at this point is that the lack of ground may have caused a the coil to get real hot internally and short out, sending voltage back out of this ground wire making it REAL hot. I let the ign key in the on position and a couple minutes later the coil spews and smokes, leaking out the internal coolant. I don't know where to start. Do I get a new coil, hook at up and pray? I don't understand why the starter button doesn't work all of a sudden either. I know I need to mount the new coil to the frame, as it should be...but then what else could this have fried....if it sent power through the frame, it might have sent voltage through everything...this is getting scary....

All fuses are good. That is, if all the fuses are the ones in the front left behind the glove box, 4 of them. Is there any fuses anywhere else on this one?

UPDATE: I don't know why I didn't try this yesterday (I wasn't thinking straight being so upset at the situation) I unplugged the wires going to the coil and hit the starter button and voila! She turned over. So hopefully all I need is a new coil. I will order one and update what happens. In the mean time I'm gonna remove all the plastic and inspect every wire and connection and replace this crappy looking green ground wire that runs to the swing-arm.

i would replace both the CDI and the coil. by your description, it sounds as if the coil has a shorted turn, and possibly the CDI is also bad. i have no answer for how you could have ever gotten to work with it, but that's what i would do.
you will no doubt continue to have little electrical problems like this until you do a thorough and proper PDI.
i'm also anxious to get that part number on the bearing you got from napa, this info can be of great value to other owners.

You're burning things up because of a very poor ground. Whoever owned this scooter before you has done some jury rigging and messed things up. R/R should be mounted to the frame at a clean from paint spot where it will ground also. This scooter will also have small "green" wires that are the ground to various things, again make sure it's starting point is where the "negative" battery cable hooks to the "frame" I wouldn't even attempt to put any new parts on it or to start it until you clean up the electrical mess the previous owner made. Sorry my reply took so long, I just got the ignition coil installed and that alone solved it (thankfully). I installed it much better than it was, so it's well grounded on both mounting ears. With nuts/bolts instead of the zip-ties that held the old one in place. BTW the part # to the clutch shaft bearing I installed is 6205J. It weas $28.49. They also had a cheaper on but I opted for quality Now it's so quiet, I think I can hear the front wheel bearings humming a little...(just a little) but I'll probably replace them soon, just to get it done. I have a new rear tire on the way, 2 brake light switches (the R one was bad so I just got both), a spark plug and a belt. from scrappydog (great price on the tire! 34. ). Hopefully I can go a while without breaking down again! Wish me luck!
