Occasionally I have some kid pull up in a small Mitsubishi or old Honda with the Raspberry Blowing Muffler yelling at me "Why don't you ride a REAL BIKE?". They usually say whoa or something similar when they get left at the light blowing raspberries and farting to catch up. A light 250 can have such a decent power to weight ratio that it can be a lot more fun in those situations than many of the heavier MAXI's out there or even a conventional motorcycle with more cc and a manual shift.
If they are more polite about it I will tell them that I have a crippling injury that makes it very difficult to work a shift and balance a heavy bike so the scooter is the best compromise to allow me to continue riding.
Truth be told though the Aprilia Sport City 250 is considered by the Italians to be a MAXI Scooter even though it is a fairly lean 326 lbs.

"Why don't you ride a REAL BIKE?" Cagers in the Houston area have not asked me things like that. Maybe because I am on a smaller 125cc scoot. Also, the traffic is so crazy and heavy in this area that I think the cagers understand why I like riding a twist-n-go scooter, especially in nice weather.
