Well, here is problem #1 for my recently-purchased scoot. Went to run to the store the evening of December 30th - scoot started right up (as usual) - but NO HEADLIGHTS! Interestingly enough, the blue light that tells you the high beams are on is now illuminated continuously - whether switch is on high or low. All other lights (brake, tail, turn signal, instrument cluster) are fine - just no headlights. I did get caught in the rain a bit the night before - could the light switch have gotten wet? If so, could it dry out, or would that be fatal to the switch? Any other thoughts? Note: I put this up in the 50cc - 200cc problem area, but got no responses - except one guy asking me where I lived in FL - maybe he wants to steal my scoot? (with no headlights... )
As of January 5th - still in the dark...

Time to check your wiring from the handlebar switch to the headlight and highbeam indicator bulb. look for frayed wire insulation, loose connections, corrosion, broken soldered connections.

All that stuff is behind plastic panels...alas... See? I put it here and get some helpful information within 45 minutes - posted December 31st in the 50cc - 200cc problem area - no answer for days...

As of January 5th - still in the dark... Generally when the all of a sudden lights quit happens it's a bad connection (could of happened with the rain) or a bad ground. It's time to take the front off and check the plugs and wires. If you find nothing there inspect the dimmer switch and then check for voltage to the switch, things like this are a process of elimination, find nothing wrong in one place move to another. As far as people replying remember the time frame you posted is still at a holiday time and some people are just not on the forum much if at all during the holidays. Had I seen it earlier I would have posted myself. Members here love to help and offer their advice for free and sometimes it just takes a little bit to answer. Keep us posted. JR

Floridagull,
You really will have to get to the wires from the switch to the headlights to find the problem. However, it's not usually all that hard. Remove a bunch of Phillips screws and carefully pry the plastics loose where they snap together. You can check for current with a cheap detector with a light in the handle of a probe.
Chances are, there's a bad connection or bad ground... or, the switch may have gone bad. Chinese wire connections are notoriously poor. Shouldn't be a hard fix. I had to replace the headlights on my old 150 and dreaded taking the plastics apart, but... They came apart fairly easily and went back together with no problems.
Do keep us posted on your fix. Both my scooters lack headlight switches (the headlights come on with the ignition) but have regular dim/bright switches to follow the wires to the headlights. Same setup, but no on/off switch.
Even if your switch has gone bad and you can't find a replacement, you could easily rewire the lights to an aftermarket automotive switch.
Absolute WORST case scenario, you could simply wire the lights directly off the battery with an aftermarket switch, but that shouldn't be necessary. Old wires and connectors just act up sometimes...
Ride safe,
Leo in Texas

Thanks Leo! My headlights also come on (or came on...) with the ignition - only a low/high switch...

Thanks Leo! My headlights also come on (or came on...) with the ignition - only a low/high switch... As is when you turn the key on the "headlights" come on? This is very uncommon especially a 08 scooter with a dimmer switch only and no on/off headlight switch? Do you know if anyone one else has messed with the wiring? Most scooters have the headlights coming off of the R/R and going to the dimmer switch and are only on when they scooter is "running" JR

Hey it's ok, this is why I asked about it. It's more than likely a loose wire or bad ground. JR
