We are sometimes our own worst enemies.
Assault with a motor vehicle was probably the light sentence as attempted homicide while on parole could have effectively resulted in a life sentence for someone approaching 60. If he has acted out while incarcerated it will add to the sentence instead of reducing it.
I was a prison consultant and there are prisons and there are prisons. Some were OK but most were places you really did not want to be. Its a rough environment in the worst where one would choose to hide personal items for safe keeping in a 1 or 2 liter bottle inserted up their own back sides resulting in regular cavity searches by the guards when bottles became unaccounted for since they many times used them to distill liquor, etc.
Lets hope he/she can get it together and not have an extended stay.

Pains a few feet lower. I was fortunate that even though the consultants were not immune to being searched I was never present during such events. I did come close one day as one occurred moments after I left the facility in Calhoun County. It was another consultant who caused the event since he had brought water bottles and a extra set of civilian clothes inside the inmate areas. That consultant fell off the map afterwards and become Persona Non Grata with all the other consultants who had to put their feet and hands on the yellow outlines after loosening their belts that day. In Florida there is still a chance they you will end up on a chain gang too if you act up. While most of the US abandoned the practice, in the South its still used by individual Sheriffs departments and correctional facilities. Northerners all believe its just history and a gag from and old Paul Newman movie however there is a lot of Florida that needs trimming, weeding etc that's too costly or dangerous to get machinery into so they still use inmates chained together to do the work. You get a very unfashionable bright orange wardrobe that almost glows in the dark when your working on the chain gang.
