I just got a DLH gy650 variator kit. My question is the clutch springs are the blue ones "1500" rpm I think. Do I really need to change my stock ones? I have a stock 2015 Taotao cy-50a. Any thoughts on what the stock springs are?

No, i bought same dlh kit and didnt change springs from stock. My mechanic father deemed it not neccesary or worth the trouble for the disputable performance gain. My bike has awesome torque.
I have the gy6 50cc. GMW brand.

I was just wondering if it was worth taking my clutch apart to swap the springs? I have watched the how to videos. Just wanted to save myself some "unnecessary" work.

Its all up to you . just remember if you use stiffer clutch springs , you must use a stiffer main spring. If not , the clutch pulley will begin to open before the clutch engages.

Stiffer springs help with better takeoff and you should still have the same top speed as long as the CVT is tuned correctly .

So in my best interest... Put the blue "1500" springs in and go from there.

I checked it out and the kit came with "1000" rpm springs. Blue ones.

I have already changed the variator and have 6gm weights in. I saw an immediate take off increase and no real top speed decrease so far. Gonna give it a little ride time and see how it goes.

3 blue clutch springs in the kit only. 1000rpm. You will need the main 1000 rpm clutch spring also. The big one that keeps the pulley closed. If u use the three without at least 1000 rpm main spring then the pulley will begin to open before the clutch engages. U don't have to match the springs , you can go with the 3 1000 rpm clutch springs and a stiffer 1500 rpm main spring , but u cannot go the other way , stiffer clutch springs then the main spring .

I should rephrase that . u can go the other way , but you will be wasting the lower gear feel, and you will have a slower takeoff.

Those little springs don't make a whole lot of difference. They will help with takeoff a bit. It makes the clutch engage at a higher RPM.
What you need to do to maximize your CVT is to change the torque spring. The big spring in the middle of the clutch. You said you have 6g weights in now? So change the torque spring out to the yellow, 1500 spring, and change the variator weights to 7g weights. I think you will be very happy with that. That is what I have found works best for me. 1500 torque spring, and 1g heavier variator weights.

I finally got to ride my scooter on a normal run last evening, nice difference. Stock clutchsprings..whatever came in it with the new variator w/6gm weights. Better take off, no decrease in top speed, and on inclines little to no speed loss and on a few inclines.. Speed gains. I'm going to keep it like this for a while. Thanks for all the input.
