Purchased a 2013 300cc Magnum with 2K miles on it. The trike was mostly ran 2 up and the rider only used the rear brakes. the pads are factory stock. I found the pads about 60% used but noticed that the stock pads are positioned were they have 10 % of the pad overlapping the outside of the brake disk. This allows the unused part of the pads to touch if the pad is about 70% used up. This would prevent the brakes from working as the pads wear down. It looks like the caliper welded mount sets the pads too far away from the axle. Has anyone seen this on this model? Perhaps I have one that was just welded up wrong. Everything is OK but could get exciting if the pads on each side of the disk start touching as the pads wear down. 100% of the brake pads should be touching the disk when activated and never overlap. Do other 300 cc Ice Bear trikes have the same safety problem?... Any comments?

you are correct,,100% of the pad should be on the rotor,,,maybe a modification of the mount is in order,,,anyway to post a pic?

I have 3 zodiacs 1 is a 2013 OTHER 2 are 2015 300 cc none have a problem of not making full surface counttact with rotors would like to see picture to see your problem

I will shoot a picture and post it. Yes, a mod of the mount will fix the problem.... same problem on each one of the rear wheels. I just wanted to get this info out so others can check their Magnums or other larger trikes. Pic to follow later this evening...

Here are the pictures... same problem on both rear wheels. Pictures are the stock factory parts. Trike is 2013 Magnum model.... production serial number 26 of the production run.

I have not seen this issue with rear calipers and brake pads. I would remove the caliper and inspect the pins to make sure they are not bent upward causing the pads to also pull up. Otherwise it does sound like moving the caliper bracket would fix the issue

evrything looks original factory,,,could the pads themselves be made incorrectly? just a thought

Everything is correct with the pads part. The problem is that the caliper support was welded to the axle housing at the point where the housing is larger in diameter than the rest of the housing. This places the caliper support about 1/4 inch farther out from the axle. It looks like they may have re positioned the caliper support holes to bring the brake pads back into he correct position in later units.
I would guess they corrected this later in the production cycle. Mine is one of the first production units when they went back to the single axle design.
I can re cut the support holes to get things in the correct position (It's off by one half bolt diameter). It would be nice to have the pads fully in touch with the disk so they work as designed.
What you see in the pictures is a serious safety issue if any owner user lets the pads get too thin. Someone at Ice Bear must be aware of this problem in the first production units.
Doer anyone have a low serial number below # 26... 2013 Magnum to confirm I am not the only one that has this assembly issue?

I test installed replacement pads (non Ice bear part) and the fit is off the same.

If it were me I would rework the mount to get the caliper "in" as far as possible,,

I reworked the mount to move it in up to 1/4 inch. Now the pads rest in the correct position . It took a lot of grinding but it is done and safe. Merry Christmas to all......

this isn't only an ice bear or trike problem. my 250cc scooter had this problem with the OEM pads. i assumed it was some kind of "early warning" system, to replace your pads soon. the funny part is, not all pads had this problem. i replaced the front pads 3 times and the first 2 replacements had it, but the 3rd one didn't.
i didn't have this problem with the back brake.

New question my wife drove off with break locked on one pad over heated and came a part. While I stated to take pads off I had a great deal difficultly getting pads around the pin which hold them into place do pins unscrew? Or do you have a trick to remove the pads while pins stay in place?
