Hey guys! I am new to the forums (NW Burbs of Chicago) but have had my scoot for a while now. Its a Roketa Maui 50 with around 2k miles on it. I recently decided to start modifying it as the 35/6 mph top speed and lack luster acceleration was just getting a little slow for local traffic. Modifications: "100cc" Big Bore Kit with cylinder head (like most its actually a 47mm bore) Stock idle jet, # main jet Blue racing CDI Orange Ignition Coil NGK Platinum spark plug Uni filter Shortened stock muffler (gutted/straight thru) 9g roller weights After installing all these modifications, it is definitely a lot more torquey. BUT my top speed is not only 29/30mph! What gives?! I have tried a plethora of different main jets ranging from stock #78 all the way to a # (too rich and bogged hard) and the # seems to run the best by far, and look the best from a plug chop at WOT, but its just not fast enough! I only weigh 135lbs so I would expect to see 40+ out of the big bore scoot. Any ideas at all guys? Cheers! Oliver

Is the variator stock? I had a stock variator on mine once and it had weird angled ramps that limited the output to about 35 for me which is not right since I get 55+ normally with non stock variators. I would also try 7.5g weights with 47mm bore and # jet should be good enough to get you up to 40-50 depending on tuning and rider and scooter weight. Transmission can make or break a setup, if it can't transmit the power band correctly then you'll only waste gas haha.

The variator is stock yes, just swapped out the rollers with the 9g ones that came with the big bore kit.
It is a light scooter, plus I only weigh like 135lbs so I would like to see 40/45 outta it if possible.
Any recommendations on vatiators that don't break the bank but will allow me to get up in speed more?
Cheers!

I have the dlh variator. A different package and with 1500rpm springs and 5, 6,7 and 8g roller weights were all included. I installed a new gates belt purchased from a Chinese ebay retailer. Its most likely counterfeit. I checked my clutch shoes and they are in good condition.
I have all the same mods as you. I have an orange cdi box. I have my lower exhaust wrapped with racing heat tape to move the very hot gasses past my air intake cone.
I think modifying your exhaust ( gutting it ) might be the culprit. Why would doing this give you more "performance' than drilling 5 3/8 inch holes in the back of canister. I think you will find that not many people agree with completely gutting an exhuast.
Today in central florida My top speed increased from 55 to 64mph due to the tempatue being a "cool" 67 degrees.
Oh yea, i run 7.5 gram rollers. I used a mix of 7 & 8 gram rollers.

I highly doubt the muffler is the cause, I've run once with just a tube and had only small performance loss, a gutted muffler would still be better than that haha. However it's a good idea to get a new muffler, you may overheat your engine running like that and run lean on decel which could destroy your exhaust valve. Sometimes the variators that come stock have ramp angles that angle the sliders and make it impossible to reach above 30-35 and just waste RPMs on BBK engines.

Those 9g rollers are spinning your engine out too soon. Try 7-8g sliders, you'll keep your acceleration, and I'll bet find that missing speed increase. And yes, a larger performance variator is a good idea.
Beyond that, you'll have to change the final drive gears to gain more.
