Great plan put them up on you website and now many more will see them and not just the people on this forum.
Then you can put them on EBAY etc..

Mold went off over night and is now solid. I just poured the first one. When it hardens, I will pull it out and chop off the excess overflow. Then drill a hole, and there will be a float. I'll go replace the float I made yesterday with this one and show you what it looks like on the gauge.

Okay... I pulled it from the mold and cut the excess off. Here it is... I drained my tank, took off the sensor, and replaced it with this one. BUT!! There is a sad ending to this... I didn't like the feel of the one I put on yesterday. I pulled it out and it wasn't hard any more... well in some spots. So I am not going to sell them until I am for sure they will work. I will pull the float off my old one, which is still working, and see how well it's holding up. If not, I can always coat the float in a chemical resistant plastic. That is a possibility.

Looks good but like you say it has to float and not fall apart. Alleyoop

Well, it can always be coated with epoxy, but I will try to find a better way to seal it up.

So all this talk about gas tank floats and I'm lost. Will this fix my crazy gas gauge problem? Most likely not. When the gas gauge is off...as EVERY one of them I have seen..it is because the rod the float goes on needs to be bent into the proper position. Case in point..my gf scoot read FULL all day long as we rode....then 'bam' it instantly dropped to well below a half tank in a few seconds. From the factory they are commonly slightly off...but mostly...WAY off. How I fix them....remove the sending unit..drain the tank...now assuming you have the typical one gallon tank...add 1/2 gallon of gas. Put the sending unit back in and it should read 1/2 tank(sadly % or so of them will not) Now bend the wire rod that the float is on place back in tank holding it down firmly and see what ya get. Do this until you get an accurate reading. Even once you do....these things are inherently still gonna be a bit off...but at least you are close now and won't be pushing your scoot to the closest gas station. Tip: Bending the wire down makes it read higher(Closer to full)...bending it down makes it read lower(closer to empty) It may take a few tries..but once you have it reading 1/2 tank when you filled it to 1/2 tank..you will a bit more happy and closer to actual fuel level. I do this for free for all my customers.....anything free is good for business...

gy6girl, I love it when people make things work with what they have! I think that coating of an "fuel tank liner" will work for your float!

I also think automotive resin would work...what they use with fiberglass cloth for body work. Many boat gas tanks are made of..or repaired with that polyester resin. They also make a specific resin for fuel tanks called Hetron 922 that race car drivers use. Here is a link to one brand...they are a bit more pricey than most...so a Google search will find you a better deal. Even at their price..one quart of Hetron 922 will coat literally several hundred floats. Here is a link.. www.fibreglast.com/product/General_Purpose_Vinyl_Ester_Resin_just_resin_1110?gclid=CKGR3pPUs7YCFcw7MgodsxgAygThere are many version of Hetron... i.e. Hetron 922L....Hetron 980. It is all made by Ashland..so check their site. Most all of their resins are gas proof. ;D

I was thinking resin too. I have some and as soon as I have time, I am going to play with it on the float.
