So, I've got a 2005 Daelim E-Five scooter, I'm the original owner, with nearly 14k miles on it...
After not being able to ride for a couple of years, I got it out of storage and have been getting it ready to be back on the road...
It ran fine when I parked it (they always do) but it was in a sad state when I got it out (I didn't know I was storing it for so long!) So, I cleaned out the old gas, more or less, and cleaned out the carb jets... at first, it was not starting after kicking and kicking and kicking it...
So, I got all new spark plugs (it only takes one) and a new CDI unit, because I thought it was the electrics... but I had a good spark out of the cylinder... I checked the fuel petcock, the vacuum lines, I cleaned the carb jets again... Still a good spark, Gas and oil in the cylinder, but No Start!!
Finally, I figured out that my exhaust was clogged!! I got some wire and cleared it out, and sure enough it started right up!
I RODE IT for several days but I noticed it was running well but it wouldn't pull me from a stop like it Used to - I remembered that my last mechanic told me the belt he put on my CVT was Too Short so, I ordered a new Kevlar belt to replace that one (thinking it was the reason for the power problem)
Unfortunately, the damned Nut on my clutch bell wouldn't come off!! so I spent a week trying to get an impact wrench and generally beating the out of it... I eventually cut it off with a dremel and bought a new - better material version... So, new belt on (again, the bike WAS running well) and I took it out for a ride...
It rode 25 mins or so just fine (even better with the new belt) but then it just Stopped on a straight away... I pulled over to the side, cut it off, put it on the stand, and kicked it back over - started fine... then 30 seconds later, the engine Died again! No sputter, just Off... Again, I pulled over and kicked it back going... 20 seconds later OFF again!! This time, I tried to use the electric start (I usually save it) while I was coasting, but No Dice... when I pulled over, I kicked and kicked but No Start!!
I got picked up by my brother in his truck and he dropped me off at home - Still Dead!
Thing is, All WAS well up to that point... as I said, I had ridden it a few hours before the new belt... and as far as I could tell, nothing substantial had changed...
I still get a good spark, I put in the Other New Plug to be sure, and I Know it had Good gas flow because it started Leaking Out of the Exhaust!!
When I took the exhaust off, there was a good cup or so of fuel in the pipe!!
Fearing my float valve in the carb was stuck, I Completely disassembled the carb and cleaned everything... it Seems to be working ok now... But Still No Start!!
I checked the exhaust and it Seems clear (at least nothing is visible) and if I blow, it seems to flow through ok....
So I get fuel, oil, spark, compression Seems good... it putts with a vengeance!
I took off the exhaust and drained the fuel, dried it all out overnight, and put it back together... kick kick kick Still No Start!!
It Was running well! I cannot figure what the problem could be!
Oil, Gas, Spark, compression... I see No Reason why it won't start running!!
I did notice a slight rattle when I started it with the new belt but I thought it might just be the variator as the belt tightened up... I also noticed a strange 'super glue' kinda smell when I ran it, but I'm pretty sure that was the kevlar belt being run in...
So, I'm Stumped! I cannot figure out why it won't run! Especially since It Was running Fine!
I'm So Open to ideas at this point!! Thanks!
