Well, finally figured out what that engine noise was on my scooter. I looked at oil- it is OK with no big chunks of metal. I changed gear oil - again no big chunks. Took rear wheel off to inspect it - nothing wrong with it. Than noticed the exhaust pipe was loose. Created an air leak. So the noise was the engine getting louder as I went faster. Sounded like a loud tick tick tick... like the engine was going to fall apart. The exhuast pipe also cracked and broke off a big chunk where it bolts up to the rear wheel. So the exhaust could move slightly down mmaking the upper part that connects in the engine even more loose that could hear engine ticking. I placed a big washer on it for now and tightened up upper piece where exhaust gasket goes. Rode it around town and took out on 50 MPH highway. No more noise. I have one more issue with it. It would not start up the other day. A short.. it is probably in the fuse box. It was as if battery was dead, nothing came on. I checked the battery. It is good. The fuse box has given me troubles from day one. I could order a new fuse box for $15. But a wire is not getting a good connection. The fuses just vibrate from the running engine. At 8 years of owning, it is over due for new parts. I will go ahead and order $400 in new parts.
I listened to YouTube videos on scooter engine noises to find the exhaust leak. It is a little tricky to pin point a noise but mine was not making a noise at idle. It took going about 30 MPH before the noise occurred. Also the warming of the engine made it more obvious. Most people on YouTube could start their scooters and immediately hear noise. Mine was not that problem. And when I rode to Rolla MO, well that is when I lost a chunk of the exhaust bolt mounting portion. It is when the noise became loud. It is hard to tell where the noise is coming from, with a helmet on. I did hear the chunk of the exhaust fall off when riding to Rolla, but could not tell what it was. I did ride around the park with no helmet and could hear the noise coming from the exhaust pipe side.

Well, after the oil change, gear oil change, spark plug change, new variator, new clutch, belt, new tires, new horn, master cylinder, light dimmer switch, and finding that exhaust leak, well runs great.
