A True Scooter Ride
1) No destination ( pick a direction and go )
2) Speed Limit 30 mph ( slow is the new fast )
3) Small roads ( turn were you have never turned )
4) Stop and smell the roses ( or the pig farm )

A pig farm on a hot and humid summer day,,,,awesome Don't ride behind the Honey Wagon or pass too close beside it as too many have open tops and tend to splash. You'll want to ride through a car wash if you get splashed and still may not be able to get rid of the smell. |

80 years ago a man start a pig farm here in the Las Vegas of a few thousand people, miles from the nearest neighbor. Now Las Vegas has a pig farm ran by the third generation in the middle of 2 million people. Next stop in Vegas skip the
Strip come visit the pig farm.

Welcome to the site!
You definitely have the right idea here... Sorta "the bikers' creed"... Whether you ride a 50cc, a large touring scooter, a Harley or Indian or a monster Boss Hoss... (or even a BICYCLE)!
Personally, I like to cruise the main-drag around dinner time, and smell the barbeque... Local brisket restaurants get a LOT of biker customers... LOL!

PS: There actually ARE worse-smelling things than pig-farms... Woo-HOO... Ever been stuck on a 100-degree day, behind an open dump-truck filled to overflowing with "past their sell-by date" chicken carcasses on their way to wherever their final destiny might be?  EEEWWWW! The liquid that steadily drips below the tailgate leaves an aroma on the tarmac that lingers for SEASONS... If you ride THROUGH the stuff, I promise NOBODY will try to steal your bike THIS year...

My dad took me to a wrecking yard that he was getting parts from,,,nice hot summer day,,,,next to a slaughter house,,,that my boys is a smell you want to avoid,,,nasty nasty nasty,,,makes a pig farm smell like French perfume

I actually met the family at The Horseshoe years ago, in-bred beyond belief, but very friendly. I personally think anyone who bought a house near the pig farm should have to live with the pre-existing conditions, the pigs were there first! Love your description of a good ride, hope you have many of them! |

In California, they spread chicken poop on a lot of the fields before planting. When the sun is high in the sky, that smell will knock you out.

When the sun is high in the sky, that smell will knock you out. Everyone knows you do that at the end of the season to prepare for next year. Keeps the neighbors at bay for months. Chicken manure can be too hot when its fresh and will require a lot more water to keep the plants from burning. |

Around here it's "slurry".
The cow poop from the dairy barn gets fermented in large tanks until it liquifies. Then they spread it in the fields as fertilizer.
That's usually a good day to be somewhere else.

I once had the misfortune of passing by a open manhole where the sewage company crew was working on on our busiest city, o gawd the stench  for a few seconds I wish I where dead, lol, is beyond my comprehension how the sewage company crew can keep up with that smell every day  they are heroes on my book; it would require a 7 figures wage to make me consider that job. |

My next scamping travel should start Oct. 30 for 5 days. Heading NE will end up going into Utah. Between desert and mountains, hoping for a nice ride. Getting impatient to start. What motivated the true ride thought was I went with the Nevada Scooter Brigade ride from Las Vegas to Hoover Dam last weekend and the whole trip was on main roads at max speeds and it just seemed to take all the fun out of the ride. Just me, all the others seem to enjoy it.
