As some of you already know I have been working some time on a video tech section. Even though I'm not done I decided to release it today. Should you have any informative videos you would like to add please post them on this thread in this section: itistheride.boards.net/board/59/ride-video-sectionI will review them and see if I have them on my download list and if not then I'll be glad to add them in the proper category. You tube and Vimeo videos in mp4 format are desired but others may can be used as long as they are accepted by Proboards. I still have lots of videos to put in the video section and will do them as time permits. I hope this new section is helpful and all of you enjoy it. JR

My I ask, WHY does every topic need a link to this new idea?
Top page of every section is not needed IMO.

Clicking on the link provided only leads to a section without videos......... Dosen't this area already exist anyway? Tech help and etc..... Sorry, I may not understand what your trying to do JR, Seems Youtube links work just fine on any thread....... I think the idea is to have a centralized place to find videos on whatever instead of needing to do a search on a subject and hope somebody posted a link to an appropriate & relevant video. And to drop in here and see if a video on something that interests you is listed. But It would seem that these would have to be member made videos if they were to become property of itistheride. There are a lot of videos on you tube, and I think that makes them public domain. I too wonder why not just put home brew help videos and links to other help videos in the General Scooter Tech Help Files. For example, in the tech section sub-board for Fuel, Air and Carb put them under a THREAD called "Fuel, Air Carb & Fuel injection videos" Any videos on carb tuning, maintenance, possibly some trouble shooting tips, etc could be found there. (or, in the 250cc & up section if appropriate for that) Sure, it is understood that some videos might cover more than one thing, so a link to a video about how to change some inner part might also include footage on how to remove/replace body panels to get to it. That video may also be of value to somebody that just needs help with removing/replacing body plastics and it could be placed in that section as well. And that way, one wouldn't need to search a long list of all videos in one place to find ones that pertain to what they need, they would already be sorted and placed in logical areas right along side the respective tech help files. That is, unless the video section has the separate sub boards, like General Scooter Tech Help Files does. But to me, it would just make more sense to keep the tech help files and related videos in the same general area. And that would require nothing more than just making a single thread, specifically for videos only in each of the tech help sub-boards. my 2 cents.

To answer some of your questions:
I gave the wrong link in my announcement thread and have changed it to go straight to the video section.
As far as it being on the top of every page presently the server provider has a way to make a announcement, by doing so you are letting everyone know of the announcement on every page, it's the way their software works. Announcements can be left for a period of time and this one will end and move down the thread list. Some people go straight to a certain page or thread when logging onto the forum thus they can see a new thing like this Video section. Guests can also view announcements which could interest them into joining the forum.
They are indeed in one section if you take a closer look. Proboards allows Catagories, Boards and Subboards. The Video section is in the "It Is The Ride Tech Information Center" at the bottom as a board with subboards to each sections such as Air Fuel and Carb to Engines Etc.
To just place random videos in threads through out the tech section is not only unorganized it's next to impossible to keep up with, example, say a good video telling someone how to fix a carb is posted and over time becomes 2 years old and a person asks if there is a good video on how to fix a carb listed? Would you want to try to scroll through 2 years of threads trying to find the video or remember where it was? I think not.
But how easy is it to go to a section listed under a size of scooter with a board of Air Fuel and Carb and look for the video under the title of How to do whatever? You wouldn't go to a public library and try to find something out about something and then look on the shelves and find all books and subjects randomly listed.
Links to things can quit working especially things like videos and images because people let their account expire or even delete their membership thus the material is no longer available. I saved it on my server therefore the videos will never disappear or be removed.
Want to make some home videos then by all means do so and then post them in the area I left open for you to post them and I'll move them to the new video section, I really don't think it's too much of a burden to scroll down to a neatly organized section of videos and have to go to the proper section to find what you are looking for? In fact I would think it would be a lot easier to go to a place that you know is dedicated to videos only versus having to go to the tech section then look for the videos. I don't want videos in the tech help files no more than I want tech help files in with the videos.
You are correct on You Tube Videos being Public Domain so let me clarify my statement which I amended in my announcement. If you "make" a video and donate it to the forum video tech section then it becomes property of the forum. If at any time you wish them removed they will be removed upon your request. I will review all videos as I do now to make sure they comply with Proborads TOS.
I am always open to helpful suggestions and like all things on this forum I donate my own time to give members things that try to help them with the forum and the scooters we all like to ride and I made the video section in a way that I felt like was easy to navigate and have helpful ideas and tips for those who may not be as mechanically inclined as others.

OK you've done it like I said in my earlier post: "That is, unless the video section has the separate sub boards, like General Scooter Tech Help Files does." which just takes it out of tech files and has it in its own board laid out the same way... except it is just videos and not files with text and still images. That certainly works. And thinking about it, you are right. That saves one the trouble of scrolling through the text and still image posts too. That same principal applies when you go through to remove dead video links... way easier to manage. Cool!

One thing though is like I said the way I put the videos in is a converted MP4 format and on my server, no links will ever go dead or videos lost. If a person happens to not have the mechanical skills of some if members can ask things like what size scooter they have and you have a idea of what might be wrong you can in lots of instances got to the section that can relate. Say a member has a Chinese scooter and you think the problem is the carb needs cleaning, you can find a video on how to clean any carb in the General Section under Air Fuel and Carb and point the member in that direction plus give them good hands on advice as well. Thanks for your ideas, I value everyone's opinion. JR
