I hit a big bump on my jcl 250a and my engine sputtered all the way back to the house. I had to restart it 3 times before the driveway.... I went for a closer look and found that my intake had been knocked looose, which I repaired but on the 3rd attempt to start it, my started just made a whirring sound...I have a charged battery, and I tried jumping the started off the solenoid and it made the same sound. Any ideas?

Did the bolts that are holding the starter in come loose? If not pull the starter and look at the teeth on it. May not be the problem but easiest to check, other than that would possibly be in the case the gears that the starter turns, sorry can't think of the actual name for em atm.

Sounds like the starter clutch may be bad. It happens when you least expect it. It takes some effort but you can change it yourself. Just Google it for some instructions and videos on how to do it.
