According to the Daily Mail, police in the UK will not chase a suspect on two wheels that is not wearing a helmet. They don't want to be responsible for the death of the suspect. This has reportedly resulted in an increase in moped riding criminals. More info at the link.

This reminds me of a story told to me while riding with a London cabbie. (concerning how criminals are treated in the UK vs. US) He said that he and his wife had been visiting in New York city and witnessed someone being robbed, and went on to say how the police had shot the perpetrator right on the spot. He ended the story with an admiring "Wish we could do that 'ere"
