Sweet new 170cc kit (bike 161QMK)is at 6300 rpm at real (gps) 55 mph. I did do a 14/38 gear swap from factory 13/40 but, my 150cc Gorilla Motor works is a t real 55mph @ 7500 rpm..... Anyone who may know, what gives. A thought is that a 170cc is just way different torque an HP spread. Pls comment.

More cubes and taller gears Means lower rpms at speed

Fyi.. even though i did gear up from stock 13/40 I still got a lagging 7500 rpms at that top speed of about 61 gps(stock). Today I was riding a tailwind and the thing with a high perf pipe and uni (properly tunned) would chill ducked up to about 62-64 real at about 6700!! 170cc,who knew!

I also have the same gearing and I'm reaching 66mph at 7000 or so rpms. If you drop your variator weights about a gram or so , you will see even bigger speeds!! Takeoff will be faster also. If you tune the CVT to reach close to 7500 rpms on a straight run , you will have at least a 67 mph top speed .

The stock gears are plenty good enough to be able to reach 65 mph . its the power these scoots lack when stock that keeps us from reaching those speeds. So when we do a bbk and all the other mods we don't need to go up that far with gearing " if at all" . the 14:38 gears are perfect for these scoots with bbks and all the other mods . the higher you go in gearing the more power you need to push the gears, and your eventually defeating the purpose of modding the scoot. Gearing also affects what size variator weights you use. You want to be able to get full climb out of the variator and be able to reach 7500 rpms . if you cannot get full climb out of the variator , there is no need to change gearing. That's the problem with the koso variators. Its nearly impossible to reach full climb . that's also why its important when buying a variator to ask around . we now have a atleast a list " NOT TO BUY" when it comes to them . I'm really curious how your top mph will turnout !

I should be fully upgraded in the next couple of weeks and gearing is the only thing that I have not bought for yet (I am on 10" wheels).... thank you - Luigi

I did have to have the gears pressed . you can buy them already pressed . one gear slides in and the other needs to be pressed. It resent get pressed into the case . you take the old gear out and press the center gear out and into the new gear and place them back into the case. You will see what in talking about when you get to that point.

Since you have the 10 inch wheel , I'm thinking you may want to go with the 15:38 .

So your saying the rpms seem to be varying ? What type of variator and clutch springs are you running ?
