I am in the process of fixing the exhuast stud that broke off in the head. I have been riding without any exhuast. 3 mile trips at the most. It runs ok just very loud.
My starter is starting to deteriorate. Its hard to start now and i have to get it just right. I also noticed the kickstart wont work. It used to with the exhuast on.
Am i doing damage to my scoot by not having an exhuast on it? What are your thoughts?
*** i am quite aware of the social and legal complications that arise when your scoot is very loud in public. Dont need any help with that

i've heard you can burn up the valve riding without exhaust. i don't know if that's fact though.

Actually you could warp the head , many times a burnt exhaust valve will lower compression , but I guess it all depends. Where are you from ? Its Ben cold over here on the east part of the us. That is the upper east. So running the scoot and having the cold air hitting the exhaust valve area can def cause warping , so its a decision u have to make , run it or not?

Usually when people upgrade to a more free flow performance exhaust they upjet. I'd say having no exhaust is about as free flowing as you can get (exhaust wise). As for how much leaner the engine is, I have no idea. It doesn't sound like a good idea to be riding it that way for very long.

The problem , if the exhaust valve is completely in the open . with the header , cold air can not reach the valve , but without the header , cold air can hit the valve and warp the hot metal. Also , some of the hot exhaust will be blown into the cooling shroud when riding and at idle .

Definitely dangerous to the exhaust valve, and the fact it's getting harder to start is probably due to that.

It will harm your hearing sense as well, without and exhaust, this things sound like a Harley I took my exhaust off one time a long time ago. I can't remember what problem I was having, but my dad's friend thought the exhaust was clogged. So I took the exhaust off, and like an idiot, forgot to remove the rear tire guard completely. When I took it for a spin, the guard ripped completely off. Smooth move that was!

Lol, last time I changed the oil pump on the scoot , I put the side cover , stator , flywheel , etc, back on and remembered I forgot to tighten the pump sprocket nut . I had to tear it all apart at tighten it. In the process I ripped the new gasket ! And had to us some gasket maker . then after I tightened it , I put it all back together again and I glanced under the scoot and saw the pupm guard and two bolts laying there !! I again had to tear it all apart and finally got it done. I was using a few colorful words that day, lol.

I too use "alternate" jargon when working on things, specially when a small bolt or nut decides to fall from my fingers and get into the most inaccessible gap
