How's it going ? Does anyone know what would be normal for oil temps? I searched but couldn't find a real answer . I went for a ride today " just a few miles and my temps read around 167 degrees which is pretty good. When I run the scoot harder my temps will sometimes be around 200 degrees. I'm sure that's not that bad either , but when should i be concerned ? Last year I had a problem with my shroud and ran close to 240 degrees a few times. If anyone has any input I'd be very grateful .
Thanks , george

i'm not sure either. i read a thread here awhile ago and iicr his oil temps were in the high 300's or maybe it was high 200's, either way it was much hotter than 240. if i find it i'll link it here later. i really think your oil temps are fine though. probably better than fine really, how do you keep that engine so cool?

Well my scoot just made me a liar today. Last time inchcked the temps it was around 50 degrees out . all last summer my temps never got any higher then around 212 degrees " except when I had the shroud issue " . After hitting the deer in had to buy a new fan cover , but they sent me a b case cover !! . I had to cut it up so that it fit right. The temps seemed OK when it was around 50 degrees , but today it was 91 degrees and my scoot was close to 300 degrees " oil temp " !! So there must be something with this cover that is not letting the engine cool right. I guess I'll have to order a new cover sooner then I thought.

Stick with the stock fan cover if you had good results. How do you measure your temps? I could not find anything good that seemed worth to try. unfortunately I do not know what best oil temps are but I would think that anything below 300 is fine since my high performance car runs at around 250 with an oil cooler

how old are the crank bearings and cam bearings? more friction is going to cause more heat. something to consider.

Everything was fine until i hit the deer . my fan cover broke so I had to order a new one , and they sent me one for a b case engine . I just ordered another new fan cover I also just messed with the fan cover again , I didn't have the fan cover vent on it. The b case cover doesn't have a space for the vent , so I made a spot for it. I'm not sure what its even for ? It says its a vent . does it have to be there ? I'm thinking that maybe it let's out extra air "obviously", maybe without it there is too much air , which possibly causes the air flow to become turbulent and not flow right , not sure. I have to use some silicone to fill some small spaces , but the initial test " idle test " seemed to suck more air. My crank has nearly 20,000 miles on it , but like I said , it was 100% fine before the deer crash , so I'm hoping its the fan cover .

I usually just give it a mean look, but lately it hasn't been working Actually the scoot has always been pretty cool . I didn't really do anything except for adding The air scoop .

I didn't really do anything except for adding The air scoop . bet that makes a big difference. wish i had an oil temp gauge so we could compare. i'm probably running in the high 300's considering all the worn out bearings. my cam is in such bad shape it's fused to the rocker arm, lol. if i can just get this oil leak fixed then i'm gonna run it into the ground. hopefully it lasts at least 3 months. i need at least that amount of time before i can get something else.

I took the scoot out this morning and I got these results. Outside temp 62 degrees Idle temp 158 degrees Cruise temp 185 degrees Wot temp 212 degrees Those are good numbers , but the temps outside where low. I can't wait to get the other cooling fan cover . I hope my temps going up is Not a result of a bigger issue then the cooling fan cover .

I posted the following on another site a while back: VDO Oil Temperature, Electric, 120*f to 300*f + VDO sender installed in left side oil drain hole. Operating temps vary with ambient air temps, and engine load. I can start scoot, warm it up for 4 to5 minutes, ride 6.8 miles for coffee, and the oil will only get to 180*. Might add that the first 3 of those miles, result in an elevation drop of 1,000 feet. Longer trips of say 12 to 20 miles result with oil temps leveling off at 220* or 230*. Get on a good climb and 240* to 250* is not uncommon. Have seen 260* on occasion, when pulling in the driveway, but it has to be a really hot day. If parked on center stand, and allowed to idle 5 minutes, you can watch the temp drop 15 to 20*.. These numbers are what I've experienced......I don't ride at WOT, if you do, I would expect higher temps. If you ride in or 100 degree weather. I would expect higher temps. In late fall, with cooler weather, I had days that the oil didn't reach 200*. Now, late yesterday afternoon, the bank thermometer in town read 87* when I started the 7 mile ride back home. In the last 3 miles of this trip, you climb 1000 ft in elevation. When I pulled in driveway, Oil temp was 240*. I run Mobil Delvac 1300, 15w/40.....and don't worry about the temps I am experiencing.

Are you the one who made the video ? If so I watched it on YouTube . it has a temp warning buzzer or something. That makes me feel a little better . I just always had lower temps for some reason . I'll post my temps when I get the right fan cover .

The lady I ordered them fan cover from is sending me a new one " the right one " and at no charge ! She does want me to send the other one back , I told her I had to cut it up to get it to work until I ordered a new one , but she doesn't care I guess ? She just wants to compare it to the other ones she has. She said all she should of had was the more common gy6 fan cover , not the b case cover. It is still possible to tell the difference by looking a a few different areas on the cover , even though I cut it up pretty good. I guess I'll have any extra one since I already ordered another new one .
