My sister has the scooter bug. I told her "get a zuma". She went and looked at them , liked the looks but kinda shyed away at the price plus she really doesn't like our local dealer. Is there any other brand that you guys could recommend , that is dependable and fairly trouble-free. Don't really want another tao-tao in the family. Thanks.

what's your price range? kymco and bintelli are reasonably priced and both have good feedback. bintelli probably best choice if you want a new scooter under $2,000 bintelliscooters.com/find-a-dealer

Bintelli or BMS hands down IMO if you're looking for a "Quality Chinese" scooter.
Both brands have significant improvements over TaoTao's and have the quality where it counts. They have ZNEN engines, NGK plugs, gates belts, 12 pole stators, etc etc... These are things that count and keep your scooter running and you not wrenching. The outer plastic is irrelevant. Take her to a scooter shop that sells one or both of these brands. Then have her sit on them. Whatever fits her size best is the one to chose.
On a side note, I own a BMS Heritage... It's an incredibly easy to ride scooter. And it's Beautiful. But it did have issues cutting out at wide open throttle. The engine never "died", but it would stall, sputter, then recover...... I discovered it was fault in these style of scooters. Because the tank is the bottom floorboard, these little GY6 engine don't produce much vacuum at WOT and these little vacuum pumps can lose their suction.

I have a 2014 50cc Bintelli scorch and I love it. Ive racked up 5,500 miles so far and no issues. I weigh about 155 and on flat surfaces w no wind cruise at 42mph. Not to mention its the best looking moped in my town
