I have two belts here both 835 20. One is my old one and the other is a new one that I bought at a local shop here in town.
The new one is 18mm wide and the old one is 14mm. Wassup with that?
I worry that the width will mess up my drive face fan. It's difficult to get it all on there and bolted up.

If they are 835/20 then they should be 20mm wide . what brand are they and are they new ? You have a long case engine . I would buy a good gates power link 842/20/30 . this belt will climb higher on the variator then the 835 . most of us with a long case use the 842 . if your belts are 18 and 14mm , first throw the 14mm away next if the 18mm is new put it in the trunk or underseat compartment and use it as a backup for the gates you should buy.

Done!! Yea the 14mm is in pieces I guess that's why haha and I measured the new belt wrong it's closer to 19 and probably worn not so new. That 842/20 also 20mm?
Do you notice any tightness when putting the drive pulley on, more specifically the fan?

Do you notice any tightness when putting the drive pulley on, more specifically the fan? Yes that's normal . what you want to do is before installing the drive face " fan" , get the belt around the shaft threads , you may need to squeeze the belt together " between the variator and clutch" , this will pull the belt down into the clutch and will give you some slack. After that you should be able to get the belt over the boss and against the variator. Keep repeating squeezing the belt to get slack, and slowly install the drive face so you don't pinch the belt . when I get the belt over the boss , I usually put the drive face on as far as possible and slightly tighten the nut . then I will squeeze the belt for slack , sorta hold the belt so its higher in the variator and tighten the but a little more . I'll repeat this until the drive face is tightened completely. Hopefully you understand what im saying. Make sure the drive face is on the shaft splines before tightening the nut . Yes the 842/20/30 is 20mm wide but a little longer and made for the long case scoots. The 30 is the angle of the cut " the sides"

Thanks for the help bud! No problem . I'm sure some just tighten it all down pinching then belt but I along with others don't like doing that . will it hurt to do it that way ? Not sure , but when I'm installing a new $25+ belt , I don't like to take the chance. Also when it comes to belts its always better to buy a good brand name belt like gates or bando . be careful and don't buy one if its very cheap , because there are so many knock offs out there. A true gates belt will normally run between 20 & 30 bucks and will come with a paper sleeve. The Kevlar gates belts will be closer to 30 bucks maybe a little more like 35 bucks. But the authentic belts will last much longer . I've heard of the gates power link Kevlar belts lasting over 10'000 miles.

I run the same 835 20 30 belt you speak of...Gates Premium (PL30507). These belts measure 19.2mm wide when new in their package, not the advertised 20mm. My findings were verified on another forum, when someone measured two new Gates belts he had, a 835 20, and a 842 20.....both were 19mm. I believe you would find the same difference in actual and advertised widths in a Bando, for I have one of those with only several hundred miles on it, and it measures 18.66mm.
